Well today's one month well visit turned into a lights and sirens ambulance ride for low oxygen levels 
DS has been diagnosed with bronchiolitis. From my understanding he is in the hospital until he can sustain normal oxygen levels and breathing rates on his own... it could be tomorrow or could be a few days.
Anyone have experience with bronchiolitis?

My son had it when he was about 5-6 months old. I took him to the ER at about 4 AM because of the rattling wheezing. They just gave him a dose of steroids and sent us on our way though.
I think overall he wasn't feeling great for a couple days. We followed up at his pediatrician's office 4-5 days after going to the ER and he was good to go.

My son had it at least once but not hospitalized - he was a little older and I think they are super careful with young babies. He just got breathing treatments I think and maybe oral prednisolone.
He was hospitalized at 2.5 for reactive airways (wheezing and working to breathe) that couldn’t be cleared with breathing treatments. It was annoying to me because he was fine after overnight treatment but they kept him a couple days to be sure ... I wanted to get him home. So be prepared for an abundance of caution in terms of discharge.

My 2 yo daughter had bronchiolitis twice, both times were ER visits with nebulizers followed by steroids and scheduled albuterol at home for a few days.

DS1 had this at just over age 2yo and we spent 8 days admitted at the children’s hospital for it. It was combined with pneumonia. Not gonna lie, worst 8 days of my life. I would say as others mentioned that they will be super cautious so I’d be prepared for a stay. Try and switch off with your spouse if it lasts longer. Even involve the grandparents if close by so you can get away during the day for a break.
Ours went like this: Friday sick and threw up, fever and congested. Saturday no better. Sunday fast breathing, trouble with keeping fever under control and he was so sleepy. Took to ER. Breathing treatment and antibiotics for the pneumonia and to go back if not better in 48 hours. Not better so back we went and stayed for 8 days. It was a bad winter for it here. Basically he had to be on oxygen and obviously couldn’t come home until his levels were consistent both sleeping and awake for 24 hours. He would always drop at night when he slept on his tummy so it went on and on like this but gradually he could go without during the day, then at night. It was absolutely awful and I had to see a therapist about it after. I really hope it’s quick for you and your LO rallies fast.
My son had to be on inhalers for a year afterwards. He was a preemie and viruses affected him so much more with his lungs. He’s 5 now and doing awesome! Fingers crossed for you guys.

My 5 month old currently has bronchiolitis. She hasn't been hospitalized but we're treating with breathing treatments at home.
Hope he gets better soon - it's so hard on little babies.

My middle son had it at that age (4 weeks), caused by RSV. His oxygen level was mostly okay, they were most concerned about a high breathing rate. They didn't give any medicine. The only treatment they did were oxygen (more for the flow than anything), iv fluids (he was not eating well), and nosasal suctioning. He ended up only needing one night in the hospital. He needed to be off of oxygen for 24 hours before being discharged, so his discharge was in the evening. The third day is supposed to be the worst, but for us it came on suddenly overnight and the first day was the worst.
He had no lasting issues and is a healthier than average almost 4 year old now.

@muffinsmuffins: Ugh that sounds so tough. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) I am no stranger to my LOs being inpatients at this hospital.
@mdf106: This is exactly what is happening. They haven't given a time for how long he has to be off of oxygen (because I guess 4 hours at 100 could be as good as 24 at 95?) and they turned off the display in the room so I won't obsess over it.
@karenbme: Thanks! My partum depression went away after birth and hasn't been back yet so it has been a lot easier to cope with everything.

@Ms. RV: Glad to hear your feeling better. Still super stressful for you brand new LO to be in hospital but I’m sure easier to handle now that your mental health is doing better.

LO had it at 15 mos old, we were in the hospital about 36 hours from arrival in the ER. It was stressful, but I was so glad that we were just moments away from medical intervention if her breathing got worse, as opposed to when we were at home trying to figure out what to do. After the first 12 hours she got better really fast and had fun with all the new sights and sounds in her hospital room.

Multiple experiences with both kids. The worst was when DS was 2 weeks old and was hospitalized for 2 nights. I don't think they ever put him on oxygen but he was getting nasal suction using the big machine on the wall every 2 hours round the clock until his blood oxygen levels stabilized.
He was/is fine! Really sucks to go through that when baby is so young and you're still not even fully recovered from birth though.

Still breathing hard, but he is eating and sleeping normally again, as well as holding pretty good oxygen levels. Thanks for asking!

@Ms. RV: yayyyy im so glad! In reading about bronchiolitis I'm pretty convinced DS2 had a very mild version at 12 days old. I really panicked and spiralled, constantly feeling his head for fever etc. I have so much empathy for moms with sick babies, especially newborns. So terrifying.
