I throw everything I can in the dishwasher or washing machine. If I can't do that, I take dish soap and a rag and hot water and wipe it down as best I can.

if it's plastic, you can dump it into a bucket of water and a little bleach and soak it, then take it out, rinse it, and wash it. I bought a bunch of used plastic toys at a big baby fair type garage sale and that's what i plan on using. bleach kills everything, and as long as i wash/rinse it well afterwards, i have no issues with it.

You could also take the pieces apart and probably throw them in the dishwasher to get disinfected

I just clorox wipe the crap out of stuff if I get it used.

How would bed bugs live on plastic? Is that possible?

@stiffaknee: I second vinegar/water mix. We use that all the time around here to clean things.
