What does this mean exactly? I keep getting conflicting information and, I'm not sure why, we haven't gotten notification of this aside from Twitter. So, what exactly are the rules? I am "happy" to abide by them!

I'm in the Bay Area where this started last week. Basically it means stay home unless you need to get food or medicine or if you work in an essential service. You can still go outside for exercise as long as you keep your social distance. So no sports but walks, biking, etc is ok.

Not to thread jack but I am currently in a city 3 with my two kids hours away from my husband who is in our small house doing self isolation after travel. If we experience a shelter at home situation I would like us to all come together, but want to stay away as long as possible to confirm he is without symptoms. How much warning did you get? Would need to pack up, clean and drive and don’t know how realistic that is...

@woodentulip: A shelter in place is not a lockdown. So you would be able to stay where you are until you are sure your husband doesn't have symptoms and then go home. I'm in the SF Bay Area and we didn't get much warning at all. I think it came out in the afternoon and it was effective at midnight? When all of CA went to shelter in place it was announced around 6pm and effective at midnight.

@KT326: ahhh but even in situations like mine, it would be possible to get home? I have a tank of gas and wouldn’t stop. Just don’t love the idea of riding this out alone...

@woodentulip: Absolutely! People are still going out for food and essentials, people who work at essential businesses are still out driving to and from work. The freeways are still open. They just want people to stay home as much as possible to help stop the spread.

@woodentulip: You can travel to get home if you are away from home. I’m in the Bay Area and I know people who were on vacation and they can come back. I’d wait until you’re comfortable with how long he’s been isolated and then come back.

@woodentulip: FWIW it is Saturday and the news was just released that our city will issue a shelter in place order beginning Tuesday. So we got plenty of notice.
