I know there's another brunch birthday party thread going but I didn't want to highjack it. I'm planning one for LO's birthday next month and wondering what to do about cake.
Is brunch too early for a traditional birthday cake? Would you do something different? If so, what? I'm thinking maybe coffee cake or donuts/holes.
Most LOs will be just turning 2 if that is helpful.

Always cake.
Actually I changed my mind. I probably wouldn't want to eat cake that early. I just like having the decoration of a cake and singing, etc. You could still do that with some other "treat."

What time does it start? 10am? You could do it at the end - I cant imagine a party w/o cake

It's never too early for cake. Maybe do a naked cake with light frosting between the layers and on top?

i think a cake is fine no matter the time because it's a birthday. but coffee cake/bundt cake would be great too!

No cake? that's absurdity.
what about a breakfasty flavored cake? banana cake with a maple vanilla frosting? Cinnamon roll cake? Umm....i dunno. I feel like you have lots of options. Put some donuts on top for decoration, LOL.
My husband will eat leftover regular cake for breakfast. He calls it Breakfast Cake. Done and done!

My friend has always done blueberry muffins for her son's birthday parties.
and FWIW my son doesn't care about cake and cupcakes and will only eat a cupcake if I tell him it's a muffin, lol

Maple bacon cake? breakfast all in one?
A place near us does maple bacon doughnuts and they are amazeballs. Tastes like breakfast but it's so much better.

@Mamaof2: The party will start at 10. I think we'll do cake around 11:15 or 11:30 so the noon nappers can have some before leaving.
We're not really going to have an end time since a lot of our friends will be driving a good distance and I want everyone to be able to hang out for whatever time works with their schedules.

We just didn't do cake - it was just our family who was there for brunch, so it wasn't a big deal. I would do a muffin or a coffee cake if you need to have a cake and candles thing!

We did cupcakes at our brunchtime birthday party last year; still got the singing, but the serving size was still reasonable! Though I LOVE the idea of blueberry muffins -- you could do a special one with some cream cheese frosting for the birthday kiddo, if you wanted.

Cake is great anytime of day! Just don't serve a bunch of other super sweet breakfast items.

Some "breakfasty" cake ideas... crumble, crumb cake, bundt cake, angel food cake w/ strawberries, or my favorite: FRUIT TART!

We were at a brunch party this weekend with an donut cake. Just mini donuts stuck with toothpicks on a foam shape.

@Corduroy: monkey bread in a bundt pan! Or pancakes with sprinkles in them--Pintrest has some good ideas.
Edit: Seriously though, just do cake. It's a birthday!!! Besides it gives the kids all day to burn it off. And they will think you are awesome.

My mom makes an awesome Harvey Wallbanger cake that works nicely for breakfast. It's not really a birthday cake but we have it for birthdays a lot since everyone loves it.

One of my best friends always does brunch birthday parties and ends it with cake and ice cream. I mean, it's brunch not breakfast. Not that I've ever had dessert for breakfast. . .
