Oh no I hope you're not getting a cold! And i hope he's not in the NICU very long. I had a very mildly scratchy throat about 3 days ago....it took 3 days to really blow up and hit me.

E was born in April and I don't think either of us were fighting anything off by then...maybe allergies? I can't remember

@Mrs. Jacks: the entire time LO was in the NICU I felt like I was coming down with something. The combination of stress, exhaustion, fear, the hospital, recovery from birth, etc. I just felt like a hot mess. I made sure to religiously wash and sanitize my hands and sometimes I just stuck my hands into the isolette holes.

I'm sorry could you take some Cold FX? I take some as soon as I start feeling sick and it usually works pretty good.

No NICU experience, but wanted to say I'm sorry you're not feeling 100%. Obviously, if there's any way you can get some sleep, that might help ward off a cold. I know the evidence for supplements is iffy, but I swear by EmergenC.

I was never sick when LO was in NICU. Is wearing a mask an option?

I would take the melt in your mouth Zicam and a nap.

I have no NICU experience, but when I feel a cold coming on I start doing a nasal saline rinse several times daily and it usually seems to help keep the cold at bay.

Our twins were in the NICU for 3.5 months. Sometimes it was tough to tell the difference between a legit illness and the effects of fatigue/stress. That being said, we played it safe and stayed home if we weren't sure. Sometimes we would trade off visits, if one of us didn't feel well. It was difficult, but we felt it was the right thing to do.

I would just trust your instincts and see how you feel later. Its so hard in those first days to know if you are just stressed out, run down, exhausted or actually sick.

Nicu nurse here.. If parents in our unit are questioning whether or not they might be coming down with something we offer them a mask. If a mask isn't an option in that unit I just wouldn't visit for a day and see how you feel. Usually if you are feeling funny the illness will show its lovely face soon and I wouldn't risk spreading germs in the NICU. Hope you feel better! (My favorite thing to make when I feel like I may be coming down with something is warm water, a tablespoon applecider vinegar, a slice of lemon squeezed in and a tablespoon of honey. It has kept me well many times. I also use to take airborne before I was pregnant)
