Around 15 months my LO's upper canines broke the skin, but they still haven't come down and now they are back in the gum! Is this possible?? Maybe it was some sort of sleep induced mirage that I had during the 15 month regression??

I thikn I have heard that teeth can go up and down but have never experience it ourselves. But that sounds like a cruel development for both you and LO! I hope the teeth come thru soon!

A's canines took months and months and months for them to come all the way out. His fourth is just starting to hit the halfway point.

Sounds like us! N is trying to cut all 4 incisors right now and has been for months!! I thought we saw a glimmer of hope but it seems to have gone back in the gum. Big hugs.

Teeth don't retract up into the gums. I'll explain without being to technical. As the teeth migrate down they are followed by the roots. Behind the roots are the permanent dentition. We are born with all are teeth buds up in your gums. What probably happened to your lo is common. Sometimes the teeth can take their sweet time coming in. When it's a long process the gums can actually regrow over the cups that have already erupted. When the teeth are ready they will have to kind of re erupt through this new gum tissue. Gum tissue actually doesn't need a tone of time to regenerate.

@MrsRcCar: hope they come in quickly for you as well!
@MamaPhoenix: ahhh thank you, that makes total sense and is probably what happened. how much longer do you think? They broke the skin around 15 months, and she is now 20ish months....

@NovBaby1112: i wish I could give you a timeline, but teeth tend to have their own unique individual timeline. My Lo is 9 months with only her lower mandibular central incisors. I've been waiting patiently for those uppers, but no show!!!
