Fortunately, yes. Throughout dating, I would be invited to dinner, family functions. Being that DH is an only child, they treat me like the daughter they never had

We try to eat dinner with them a couple of times a month and I spend time with them alone as well (my office is only a few miles away from their house). I call MIL every once in a while to check in on her if we haven't seen them in a while.

sheesh! what are the rules of the house?? that's so bizarre.

we live in the other side of my ILs duplex (yay, us..) so I'd say we communicate pretty well. they have a *great* amount of views I do *not* agree with, so I am pretty vocal when they're doing it in front of me on purpose (mainly FIL and BIL). I just leave. they've learned now because I never go over - and if I do, they're generally on good behavior. doesn't mean they don't say/do those things behind my back..I just don't like to associate myself with it.

(not saying I ignore everyone who disagrees with me! but personal issues such as gay marriage/homosexuals in general, and racial issues they really push my supportive buttons on)

I have a good relationship with my in-laws when we see them. They are in NC & we're in GA, so it's not very often. We don't talk on the phone or email each other, but they are very nice people.

The hubs has two brothers and a sister and we aren't really close with them either. One of his brothers has lived in the same town as us for almost 2 years and I think we've seen him here in town 3 times. Super weird but the siblings just aren't very social with each other.

I communicate great with my in laws. Although we don't talk on the phone, whenever I need something from my MIL I have my DH call her, I don't know I just feel weird calling her for stuff. They have always made me feel part of the family from the very beginning! My MIL is just happy DH found someone to marry (and that they like me), they thought he was going to be a bachelor forever (her words not mine!) haha

omg. That is so wierd. I don't really communicate with mine though, ocassionally over email or text but mostly through my husband. I dont' know why, we are still in that awkward stage I suppose after three years and seeing them twice a year !!! ugh.

MIL is a social worker so she's a great communicator, but we still don't talk much. DH talks to her almost every day though so she stays up to date with our lives.

Yes, we lived with them for a few months, so thankfully we communicate well. I don't have the typical "in-law" issues that many people have, though DH has them with my family. My in-laws are amazing people who I think of as a second family and have since we started dating. I'm very comfortable with both of them. My family, though, is a whole different story.

My FIL is deceased (he died many years ago) but MIL and I communicate well - she speaks her mind and generally so do I : )

Mostly. I get along very well with MIL, BIL, SIL and the aunts, uncles and cousins on his side of the family. FIL is a different story.

that's bizarre. Thankfully my MIL is very communicative and sensitive so we do have good communication... that is, when I let it happen. She's a little too much to the other extreme-- she wants us to be best friends, she calls me her real daughter, etc. I don't even have that close of a relationship with my OWN mother! But we have a good understanding of each other... it just takes work to be on the same page all of the time. But I know I'm lucky because at least she's willing to meet me halfway.
