We have started a bedtime routine with A (16 weeks old) that involves a sponge wash, story, quiet play in our dimly lit bedroom and nursing. She usually goes to sleep that way (while nursing) at about 6-6.30pm, then I hold her until she's in a deeper sleep then try to put her down. She wakes up about 45 minutes later really upset - like REALLY upset!

While she's this upset I hold her, perhaps nurse her, sing to her, talk to her but keep her in the dimly-lit bedroom with me. Sometimes she calms down and goes back to sleep, but sometimes she can cry for a long time. I've given up walking up and down with her because I think it prolongs the agony.

Do you know why she might be SO upset? I don't think she's in pain or anything like that.
