So I'm totally late to the trend, but now I really want a pair of ankle boots. I'm short tho and I'm afraid I can't pull them off! I read somewhere that I should get pairs that are as short as possible so it doesn't chop off my legs.
Any real life pictures of how you guys wear ankle boots? Do you have a pair you love?

I'm totally with you on this. I like the trend, I saw a girl who looked so cute this morning wearing some... but then I put them on and just feel like I look stupid. Or that they need a specific type/length of pants or jeans that I just don't own or have time to shop around for.

I'm not much of a boot wearer but I wear a lot of high tops and I find the opposite is true - they need to either finish below my ankle bone or well above it to avoid looking weird and stumpy legged!

Nope. I have enormous calves, so they make me look short and stumpy. I'm not a fan of ankle boots on many though...

@psw27: Yeah! I've been pouring over Pinterest and they all look so cute, but I just feel weird wearing it! Same with the "soft pants" look (DH calls them PJ pants). They look chic on everyone else but I literally look/feel like I'm wearing PJs, even if I dress them up... lol

Shorty checking in. I don't have a pair but I REALLY want a pair. I never thought about them making me look shorter? I guess subconsciously I'm ok with that. haha

@snowjewelz: I feel ya on the soft pants too. I have a pair, and I wore them the other day and DH took a picture of me and LO and I was like UGH I look like a slob in those... I guess cause I didn't have on 5 inch heels like a fashion blogger would.

I love ankle boots and booties. I'm 5'1 and definitely not lean or long-legged! Knee-high boots tend to make me look like I'm going fly fishing. Mine fit close to the ankle and have chunky heels. Favorite are black leather Cole Haan Cassidy:

I have a black pair with a chunky heel and I think they look cute with skinny jeans and dresses. I'm short so I think the heel really makes a difference.

@psw27: They are super comfortable and very well made! There is a newer version (way more $$$) that has a buckle around the ankle but I prefer the original ones.

I'm not sure if I can, but I decided to just go for it when I got a pair last Christmas 
I feel like most people I saw on pinterest were stick thin...but I think they're so cute I just had to try it. I took this photo for the bump thread. I wear them with a dress or with my regular skinny jeans rolled.

I have two pairs of ankle boots - a black Steve Madden one with a heel and a tan Splendid one without a heel. I absolutely love wearing my flat ones to work with skinny jeans or rolled up jeans. It makes my jeans more dressy than just wearing sneakers. I'm short and petite at 5'1" but I think the ankle boots I have don't make my legs look stumpy.

@jojepie: @MoreCoffee: how do you find the splendid boots, comfort wise? Like, ok for walking to the copy machine and back, or ok for a mile plus walking commute? They have a pair that I really like the look of but in wondering if they will be comfortable enough. I like the price a lot more than Frye boots! These are the ones I want.
OP- I don't know if I can pull them off but I want to! I do think either very tight fitting pants or rolled to show ankle seems to help.

@Foodnerd81: Those are beautiful! I totally love my Splendid boots. I've had them for about 3 years now and I wear them everywhere - office, travel, vacations, errands. I am not one to wear heels so the slight heel on my boot is perfect. The interior foot bed is starting to show some wear, but I wore these boots a lot.
ETA: Maybe it's time for me to upgrade to newer ones! I didn't know Anthro sold Splendid boots. I bought mine from Piperlime.

@jojepie: awesome, thanks. I'm pretty picky with comfort in shoes I wear regularly (which is why I've been wearing sneakers all the time) but sometimes you want to look nicer! I think I'm going to order these and a pair of merrills to try on (merrills, less cute but maybe more comfortable).

@Foodnerd81: Oh! I saw that you mentioned Frye boots. I own a pair and unfortunately wore them in the snow/rain while on vacation. It did not fare well for the boots. I think I need to get the bottoms changed out. Just FYI if you are considering purchasing them. Also, it took a while for me to break them in but they are really nice - just not as comfy as my Splendid booties.

I'm short (5'3") and wear ankle boots. Mostly heeled ones. I think they work best if they cut off at the slimmest part of your ankle. If they go higher to the wider part of the calf, I think they aren't as flattering.

@jh524: Thanks :). I'm a 9.5 too and I don't think they make them look bigger at all. I almost bought a pair of Hush Puppies instead that were nearly identical, except they were flats instead of wedges. But they did make my feet look bigger and less cute over all.
They are pretty comfortable, there's some padding in the toe box. I've only been wearing them today though, so I don't have much to go on.
