I'd probably just suck it up and buy two new carseats with a taller height limit. With another LO on the way you're eventually going to need 4 convertible carseats anyway, right?

I agree that I would give the new lo the marathon and buy a radian for your older lo. I was really surprised at how much more comfortable the radian was for extended rear facing than a Britax seat. At Buy Buy Baby I was able to get one using a 20% off coupon which really helped.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I don't want to thread jack, but my LO is so tall (95%) and we are getting ready to buy a convertible car seat. Was going to buy the marathon. Is there something else you would have bought instead?

@Mrs. Yoyo: I would probably buy another seat. What is the weight limit for rear facing in the Marathon? 30 something?

I second the radian. I have it rear facing in my nissan altima with the angle adjuster ($10 on amazon).

I drive a Ford Fusion and it fits either with the angle adjuster our with the passenger seat pulled forward so I would think you should be ok. Buy Buy Baby will let you try the seat in your car so you could try that if you have one nearby.

For me, I would turn LO to forward-facing. If it were absolutely unsafe to have her doing so, then of course I'd get a new seat for her. But because she is still safe to be forward-facing, I would consider saving the $500.

Here in the UK it's really uncommon for parents to keep babies RF past a year (9 months in most cases actually). It's really hard to find a seat that will rear face over about a year. I'm torturing myself over whether to shell out or go with the norm here... Especially as we don't even have a car right now, so it would just be for very occasional use.

@Mrs. Pen: Mine is an '09 so they should be pretty similar, I will say, I have not tried installing it forward facing yet though. My car has those built in head rests and they can be a pain to work with if a seat has a higher shell. I used to have a Britax Frontier (which has a similar shell) in there and it was extremely difficult to get a good install. If you want me to try installing it forward facing in my car I can try later this week and let you know how it goes.

@Mrs. Pen: I am happy to do it, the seat is at the family's house right now and they are out of town until Thursday so it will be later this week but it is not a problem. I have had both a Marathon and a Boulevard installed forward facing without an issue so I was surprised at how tricky the Frontier was.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I don't know because look at the birtax website. It says seated height has the same restriction for RF and FF.

@mamabolt: @Mrs. Yoyo: Thank you for this info on the marathon! My daughter is 95th percentile for height due to some long *ss legs, so this info is very helpful as we consider convertibles!

I would forward face, especially if I was alreadylooking at buying a carseat for #2.
