My daughter was recently in the hospital for over two weeks and it is so hard. Definitely some socks and a nice blanket, some snacks and a water bottle, and a book/magazines. If you could organize a meal train for her family that would also help, that was a lifesaver for us.

Eye mask. Fur lined Croc slippers. This time of year Costco sells this fleece shawl that is amazing for $15 bucks (Ike Behar brand) and it's been a favorite gift for all the women in my life who have to work in cold offices or for planes or movie theaters and I think it would be great for both mom or kiddo. I'd get the kid a huggable friend, maybe an iTunes gift card to buy games or TB shows to watch. Fun socks or slippers for the kid and a fuzzy blanket.

Also may be out of budget but when I was in ICU and recovering at home from major surgery the best gift I got was a Barefoot Dreams blanket.

I would try for some shelf stable meal like things, maybe even a jar of fancy nut butter and crackers. A gift card to audible or Amazon for audio books or Kindle books and a pair of headphones for when her little one is sleeping.
