Do you have light colored carpet? Do you love or hate it? I want a light carpet and DH and the carpet guy think I'm insane! I guess I should factor in 2 young kids and indoor pets?
My favorite is the 5th one in the first column. Carpet shopping just makes me want to drive to Sephora so I can buy eyeshadow palettes instead!

Is that one white? It looks nice and if you have a carpet cleaner it should be fine. I like the first couple in the second row. Actually the 3rd in the second row looks like my current carpet. Neutral and hides dirt

Everywhere I have lived had carpet in the color range of the first column. I think it's a risk with dogs and kids, but you house is gonna look awfully dreary if you get a dark carpet, and be harder to decorate because you will have to consider how things look with the carpet more. Side note: as a child my bedroom had red carpet, yuck!

@autumnlove: My parents had a cream carpet mixed with some dark strands. Really pretty and very soft but we were never allowed to walk in that room. So it still looks lovely

We went when a medium colored carpet that was dark enough to hide stains. Like the one second row from the left & third one down.

My parents have that color carpet in their home, and it was totally pristine for at least 10 years until I brought my puppy to visit! I think the pee stain would have come out just fine if they'd used my normal pet stain remover. Is the second to bottom in that column dark in person? I feel like it has just enough tint to hide residue from stains, but still reads light and crisp.

I have a lighter colored carpet, and I hate it! It's original to the house, an when moved in it was stained. I have to vacuum all the time because of my dog's dark hair. I don't like carpet ever though because dirt and hair gets in it and you can never get it perfectly clean. I can't wait to rip ours out!

Light colored is really a pain to keep clean, EVERYTHING shows up...I do like the one you picked, and also the one your DH picked, but I think in the long run you may find it easier to keep up with the little darker one. If you do go with the lighter one, i'd get a carpet cleaner, or one of those bissel little green machine things to clean up stains

@Leialou: Agreed, the previous owner of our house replaced the carpet in the bedrooms just before we bought it and it's not unattractive carpet but we are for sure replacing it with wood in the next year.

Two dogs and a baby with almost white carpet chiming in--- it's the WORST!!! Dog puke, baby puke, red wine (maybe that one was me!). I scrub, I spot clean we even had a carpet steamer that couldn't get the job done. We're hiring a professional company to see if they can come and clean it otherwise it's being replaced with dirt coloured carpet ASAP!

Our carpet is similar to the one that's third from the left, bottom row. It was here when we moved in 5 years ago, and it has hidden everything (two dogs, too). We did rip it out downstairs and replace with a high quality laminate. It seems to hold up really well to everything except puddles. We had one dog pee incident where it sat on the floor for 12 hours and warped the seam - but you can only notice if you're a few inches from it. The price is pretty reasonable and we were able to DIY - maybe that's an alternative?

Yes, we have a similar one, and I HATE it! I would go one above or one below. Ours shows dirt so easily, so unless you plan on getting your carpets steamed every few months, don't do it!

Light colored carpet here and absolutely hate it. I picked it out in my single days, but now that i have a DH and LO, it's awful.

When I was very little, we had dark brown shaggy carpet (think 70s) and it did make the house seem a lot darker. Then my dad became obsessed with white/creams Berber carpeting, which really did look a lot brighter and nicer! No pets indoors and no shoes indoors growing up, but let's just say my mom would want to change out the carpeting every 5 years or so. So we went thru a lot of carpet changes until she finally decided to do ALL laminate and tiles now. (but she is also not fond of cleaning and vacuuming).

My carpet came with the house, but they had kids and dogs too so thank goodness its not too light.
When picking out carpet for our last place we didn't have lo yet so I tried to match it up with my dog's throw up color without going too yellow. Gross... but practical.

Thanks everyone! I think light is unrealistic with the pets indoors...my dog just had an accident on our crappy apartment beige carpet. 
Also, the carpet guy was giving me the "just you wait" talk because he is currently potty training his almost 3 year old triplet sons and they have tons of accidents around the house.
I'm thinking DH's color is ok or maybe something with more gray tones.

@autumnlove: i agree more gray tones.. the yellow tones in the color he liked could be really hard to match to other stuff like wall paint.
