I'm in the initial stages of planning out our nursery, and I am trying to decide if we should put a rug in the room. We have carpet in that room (it's a neutral tan-ish color). Do you think it looks silly when a nursery has both carpet and a rug? Or do you think it looks better that way?

I don't think it would look silly, but I think it would depend on the color of the rug against the carpet too.

We just added a rug to our carpeted nursery - I love it! Not fully done yet but here is a photo.

We did that in our nursery- beige carpet w/ a purple throw rug.

W added a cheap kids play rug. I like it but it doesn't stay in place.

It can look nice in some cases, but I'm not a fan of rug on a carpet

I am not a huge fan of a rug over carpet but I do think if done right it can look good.

I'm debating on this too. I'd like to put a rug in to give the room some color since our walls are neutral and our carpet is beige with some specs. We're not "decorating" much, but I do feel weird putting a rug on carpet. Guess it depends if I find a good deal or not. If yes, than probably will. If no, then I'll pass.

nope, not weird. We did that in our little apartment when we first started living together and then engaged. It took some convincing my husband, but it looked nice.

Make sure you use a pad under the rug... rug directly on carpet will usually discolor the carpet after some time... I've learned that the hard way!

We have a rug and carpet. I wish it were a little bigger, but I like that it adds some color to the room.

@Alivoo01: That's how I feel. I don't want to spend a fortune because I don't think one is necessary, but if we got a good deal on a cute one then I'd be ok with that.

Not at all (I don't think it's silly). I think an area rug can really help to both pull together and define a space!

We have a rug on the carpet in the nursery. I didn't think I'd be a fan, but it actually really pulls it all together. Just be sure it's a heavier rug (or it'll constantly move and wrinkle) and that it's size is appropriate.

@78h2o: Ooh, thanks for the tip! Our carpet is beige-ish/brown, and I've been toying with the idea of a carpet on top too. I think DH will hate the idea and think it's redundant (which it pretty much is, haha!)
