We recently bought a new house, and all of the bedrooms have white ceiling fans except for my DD1's room, which has an ugly boob light fixture. I don't love the look of the white ceiling fans, but we live in the south and we do use them. We've been using a small tabletop fan in her room for now and that's been fine (we didn't have any ceiling fans in our last house). I would like to replace the boob light eventually, but I can't decide if I should go with the boring/practical ceiling fan or if I should get something more fun. So, just for fun, what would you pick?

Ceiling fan. I've always lived in warm climates and couldn't live without ceiling fans. We have them in every bedroom, the living room, and breakfast nook. I really could use one in the office too. I always love to look at beautiful light fixtures, but it's just not practical where I am.

I love ceiling fans in bedrooms. I totally agree that other fixtures look nicer but I just love a nice gentle breeze while we sleep. That's actually the only real chance we made when we bought our condo- add a ceiling fan.
We just bought a new house (today- omg!) and the master has a gorgeous tray ceiling and we are a little bummed that a ceiling fan won't really work.
It doesn't have to be ugly white though. I think ours looks me, dark wood with brushed silver tone hardware. Just a basic one from Home Depot.

You can replace the blades with something more attractive. I've seen some gorgeous ceiling fans.
I definitely want ceiling fans in my home when we buy.

I would go with a ceiling fan, but not boring white.
We don't have any, but have considered changing to ine in the main living area.

I love ceiling fans in bedrooms! I live in the south and they are so practical. Ours has dark cherry toned blades and nickel hardware. One day I will change out the light bells for something a bit nicer (I like seeded glass and these are frosted), but for now it's okay.

I agree that ceiling fans are not the prettiest lighting option around, but they're too practical not to have.
I'd say get the ceiling fan, but an upgrade from just plain boring white.

Ceiling fans all the way. I'll cast my vote for a plain white one too, assuming your ceiling is white, they blend in better that way. I haven't seen very many fancy fans that I think are attractive.
If you don't want the light attachment making the fan bulky, can you put in recessed lights or sconces on the walls? I dislike a big, central overhead light in a bedroom anyhow.

another vote for ceiling fans - its hot here and they cool you off much better than a floor fan

Gotta have ceiling fans in the south! Our electric bill would be astronomical without them.

We just bought our place and renovated so the girls rooms are super efficient and keep a nice temp no matter what so we ditched fans in there for schoolhouse lights. Our master though is lofted and very inefficient and warm so we did a schoolhouse ceiling fan!

@Pancakes: No. Neither of ours match (the one in the living room is kind of ugly/not my style but it works really well) but they are both wood-look.

ours is the 52" and black blades. it was pricey, but we were very specific in the look we wanted!

I hate when I look all over instagram and none of the "pretty" homes have ceiling fans (or TVs, but that's another topic of conversation for another day...)
I think ceiling fans are essential! Try to find a nice looking one.
