I want to name my little girl Charlotte, with the nickname of Charlie (after a male friend). However, I know that I never liked my name since it's a unisex name. I want to hear from others with names like Charlie to know their thoughts on the name. Is having a girly legal name enough to make a nickname like Charlie feel right?

I love the name Charlie, personally. If, as she grows, she wants to be called Charlotte, she can do that. She can take either persona.

We know a little girl named Charlie!! I love it for a girl's name. I also love Charlotte for a girl... so I'm liking your idea... that's nice she could choose later on in life what she prefers to go by.

If we'd had a girl, that was our plan except we would have used the spelling Charley to make it a little more feminine.

My name is Teresa but almost everybody calls me Terri. I've never really felt that my nickname wasn't feminine enough. It's kind of just fit all my life. Growing up I was mostly a tomboy, now I'm more girly and my name has always just worked. The biggest issue I've had is people spelling both names wrong!
ETA: My neice's name is Samantha. We call her Sam or Sammie and she's one of the girliest girls I know!

i have a "boy" name (which is actually a nickname for Anthony, i was named after my grandfather) - its masculine enough that when my hubs and i started dating, people thought he was spending an inordinate amount of time and going out with some dude every weekend haha
i have LOVED having a "boys" name, and think its adorable on little girls. and, i don't think i could be any girlier if i tried (think: pink, pearls, and cardigans) - i definitely would not hesitate having a "boy" name for a future daughter

My name is Melissa, but my entire family calls me Mel. I don't think anyone called me anything but Mel until I was in my 20's. I started using Melissa in my prof career and as I made more friends as an adult they call Melissa as well. When the group is mixed I answer to all of the names. Mel just was too masculine for me as I got older and I was afraid people would get confused if they saw my name on paper and then met me in person.

Thank you! I'm glad. I was already VERY attached to the name. Now I can think of my future daughter as Charlie without reserve.

I have a friend named Samantha. We always call her Sam or Sammie. She would rather we did anyways.

My niece is named Charlotte and we call her Charlie (she's 3). She calls herself Sharlie. I love the name and the nickname! She's super duper girlie now too.
