In the hospital, DH was changing DS's diaper. He was crying very hysterically and then when DH picked him up to swaddlers him, suddenly he was silent flailing around and frothing at the mouth. He wasnt breathing. I started screaming and DH gave him to me and ran to get a nurse. All the nurses rushed in and he started to cry again. They suctioned his mouth with the bulb syringe and said that he choked on spit up while he was crying and that you suck the sides of the mouth with the syringe if it happens again. Now I'm home and in a panic. I'm terrified he'll stop breathing again. I was not a neurotic first time mom with my first, but now I feel utter panic about my second! Any advice? Similar experiences? I don't know how to relax about it.

DD2 is constantly spitting up so I am worried about this too! I basically carry the blue bulb syringe with me at every feeding to suction the spit up. I have one in the crib too. The hospital gave us 2 to take home.

Lo had this but it was mucus from swallowing amniotic fluid. I just tried to suction her wheneve she was awake to get as much out as possible.

This happened to my son. It actually happened twice in the hospital, plus the whole time there he was just spitting up like crazy. They actually ended up lavaging his stomach (just sucking it out) because it was full of mucus/amniotic fluid because I had a fast pushing stage (only pushed 20 mins - they said it wasn't enough time to clear the fluid or something?). Anyway, it helped for a little bit, but then came back.
I don't want to scare you with my whole story, my son is fine (he's 4mo now) - but ended up having very severe reflux (hospitalized a couple times) and a lot of GI issues still ongoing. BUT I think that's unusual. When he was little like that, we took the bulb syringe EVERYWHERE and had one basically in every room, always next to him in the car seat (where I was sitting next to him) because I was so paranoid. And I felt much better once I was trained in baby CPR/choking.
Honestly, I don't think there's a way to relax about it. I was terrified to fall asleep. I didn't sleep at all for like a month.

So this happened to my son a few times too. Scared the SHIT out of me. The ped finally explained it to me in a way that gave me comfort. He said if a lot of fluid comes up his body will try to protect the lungs from fluid and his vocal cords will close, and he'll stop breathing. But, the brain will decide that breathing is more important than protecting against the fluid and the vocal chords will open again. Even if you don't touch him or do anything. I still don't sleep well and it's scary but he told me a baby's body is very good at self preservation. We do have LO sleep in a rock n play to help keep the reflux down and he's on a small dose of Zantac.

I have a breathing monitor that clips to my daughters diaper that she wears while sleeping. That way an alarm goes off if she doesn't breathe for 20 seconds. It also vibrates after 15 seconds or so to stimulate the baby. It's the only way I sleep well at night. Best $120 we ever spent!
