For Christmas, I like the idea of LO writing a letter to Santa with requests, and I remember as a kid going through the Christmas toy catalogs with such enjoyment. Is that still a thing? Is there one you would recommend?
Otherwise, LO doesn't watch TV with commercials because we don't have cable, and I avoid the toy section at Target, so she's really not very aware of the toy options that are out there! I probably should keep it that way but I'm already getting so excited for the holidays

We did the catalogue thing too! So much fun as a kid. Sears still has a Wishbook, and you can put yourself on mailing lists for things like local toy stores/bookstores.

Last year, my son got his hands on the Toys R Us catalog. He circled a ton of stuff, I mean, even the baby dolls got circled. We talked a lot about him not getting everything and he managed to pick one thing and we got him that.
We wrote a letter to Santa thanking him for the gift and sorry we forgot the cookies. This year, he's already written his list, with my help.

@Golden: I can't find the Sears Wishbook - just vintage stuff online! That would be so fun. Why are catalogs so neat to me now that they are hard to find?

It looks like Fat Brain Toys has a holiday catalog but it hasn't come out yet.

You could always make your own - just print out a bunch of "preapproved" toys onto double sided paper and staple together or otherwise bind. Of course not the same, but littles won't know the difference!

I loved looking through the catalogs as a kid! I'm hoping they keep that up in some form so my LO can do that someday!

@daniellemybelle: the actually do have smaller toys, they just don't seem to be as easy to find on their website. It looks like most of them are under the imaginative play section.
