Finally, after a long winded underwriting process that seemed to take forever, we just got clearance to close on our new apartment. This is the first home for DH and I, something we were not so sure would be possible to achieve in New York. I'm still light-headed with elation and just had to shout about it somewhere!
Scared about the prospect of shifting from rent to mortgage, but so flipping excited!

@mrsjazz: Yes! We are closing on Thursday, so I'm thinking oyesters and champagne on Friday night if I can find a babysitter! Might as well enjoy now before the insane mortgage has us eating rice and beans all the time

@plantains: We close on Thursday! We just got word last Thursday everything was good to go. I can't wait to be done with the "boring"/anxious side of things

DH and I slept on an airbed in front of our downstairs fireplace the first night we had the keys to our house just because we were so excited it was OURS!

@LindsayInNYC: we bought in Long Island City. Just had our final walk through tonight and all was good. We are supposed to close tomorrow but of course there is some last minute drama with the condo's Fannie Mae approval and the bank. Hopefully we can still get it squared away tomorrow because I am totally over it.

congrats!! i think you'll enjoy the transition from rent to mortgage after you get used to it. the certainty from year to year of your payments, the fact that it's YOUR place, and the awesome tax benefits. plus, it feels super cool to be able to tell people you own something in NYC
