@tororojo: GREAT! I saw great reviews of the Freetimes on Amazon. I think those plus a Grovia bioliner (so solid poo doesn't get stuck between the sewn-in inserts as I read can be a problem) is a great option. Getting excited about this!

After attending a CD workshop and getting our hands on all the products and learning tons of details about each option, we ultimately decided to go with AIOs. In an ideal world, we'd go with prefolds/covers, but we're both going to be working full-time with LO at daycare, and we figured the daycare would appreciate the simplicity of the AIOs. We also figured that would be easiest on family when they watch him.

For when he starts eating solids, we'll use the rice paper liners - I doubt we'll even get a diaper sprayer. That way we can just lift out the poo, throw it out, and throw the diaper in the bin to wash. For overnights, we'll probably get hemp inserts if it seems he's wetting through them. As for when we're out and about, we'll keep a small wetbag in the diaper bag and throw the dirties in there. We'll spray the wetbag out with Bac-out when we get home and dump the dirties into the big bin to wash.

Like I said, we attended a CD workshop and it was ENORMOUSLY helpful. Hubs was really skeptical at first, but sitting through the workshop totally brought him over to the crunchy side. We're both really excited to go this route!

We use BG pocket diapers. We went with pockets over AIOs b/c they dry faster. We have been unable to cloth diaper overnight ever since DD started sleeping through the night b/c she is a very heavy wetter. We use disposable night diapers at night. We also don't like handling the poop. (Who does?) When DD was exclusively formula fed we could just throw the diapers in the wash directly. Now that she eats solids we use a flushable diaper liner. We bought a diaper sprayer, but we quickly found that spraying off poopy diapers was not something that we were wanting to do.

@JoJoGirl: You could also use fleece liners. We used the Grovia liners for a little while, but they weren't compatible with our plumbing. And throwing them away kind of defeats the purpose, you know? So we use fleece liners now. They're thin, so they wash and dry easily, and you can make them yourself. A yard of micro fleece is like $5 at JoAnn's and is enough for 30ish liners.

@littlebug: Yes, this is EXACTLY what we plan to do! Rice paper liners sound the same as the bioliners I am so excited about.

@skibobrown: Another vote for a flushable diaper liner, love it!

@Weagle: Are fleece liners as easy to clean up as a disposable bioliner? We like that there's no scraping or spraying involved, the bioliners are thin and easy to flush, biodegradeable, and cost .02 each. I don't mean the big disposable inserts, just the liners. Is there an even easier alternative to those I don't know about yet?

@JoJoGirl: umm... Depends. If the plumbing in your house can't handle the bio liners, then, yes, the fleece are easier. The bio liners, while thin, don't disintegrate that quickly (they can go through the washing machine and come out the same as when you put them in) so they can easily clog up your pipes. We don't scrape or spray poop. Most of LO's solid poops are solid enough that I can just plop it in the toilet. If that doesn't work, I just swish. Sounds gross, but its not. It's much, much less gross than scraping poop or spraying it all over the bathroom.

@JoJoGirl: it is true that the 'disposable' liners come out of the wash without breaking down like kleenex would (as I've accidentally put some of the disposable liners in the wash when they were just pee diapers). The only down-side to the liners is that the baby does not have the 'stay dry' feeling that they normally do from pocket diapers. So, when I have a bioliner in, I touch his bum after and it feels wet. I seem more bothered by this than LO. I've also started to strategically place the liner so it isn't on his penis, as I think we might have gotten our very first diaper/penis rash from the liners. We use a diaper sprayer at home, but I'm not going to lie: I have 'yuck' moments with the sprayer.

@littlebug: this sounds like we want to do (ok, what i want to do if i can convince husband and daycare)--AIOs for ease of use and liners for poop. do you know what kind of AIOs you're going to get?

@edelweiss: We're going with the BumGenius Freetime. BG in general gets such great reviews, and we liked the feel of them at the workshop.

@littlebug: That's what we're leaning toward too, the reviews are great and everyone says they dry way faster than Elementals. We're going to a CD workshop in 2 weeks but I feel very prepared in advance already

@cvbee: oooh good to know. I figured since they don't 'hold' moisture, it would wick through to the next layer. That's a bummer. Has anyone using liners had trouble with diaper rash?

    nectarine / 2039 posts

@JoJoGirl: I don't think it is common. I have two friends with babies with very sensitive skin--even more sensitive than my guy's and they have had zero related issues with diaper rash. I think it was just a coincidence that my little guy had his issue when we started the bioliners, but it still makes me cautious. And his bum felt a bit wet, but did not get red nor have any rash, even when on his bum overnight. So please don't not use them because of what I've said! I still use them.

@cvbee: Okay good to know, thank you! The bioliners were like, the answers to my prayers, ha ha, and likely the singular thing that will push us toward cloth.

Covers+flats for us because you can really beat up the flats without destroying them or the cover/waterproof part (wash separately)--so my germophobe self and poopophobe husband can feel like the diapers are super clean.
