What lessons have you learned from cloth diapering that you wish you knew beforehand? (Hopefully other people can learn from us!)
For me:
1) That I wouldn't like it. I seriously wish I never started CDing. But, since I did, I'm going to stick with it. I've just never been one to think that CD bottoms are cuter, and find myself longing for the trim sposies. It's not *that* bad though, so if you're on the fence don't let this turn you off
2) That you NEED wet bags. It took me a couple months of trying to save money on another CD accessory, but wet bags are pretty important - at least to my set up! It really helped our smell problem.
3) I should have gone with name brand diapers instead of buying from homemade ones. Again, trying to save money, but I ended not saving *that* much, and her construction kind of sucks. Plus she used REALLY cheap snaps that are all failing and I have to get them all replaced.
I'm finally starting to come out ahead, money-wise, but it has NOT been easy! (including increase in utilities and detergent costs). I will at least start seeing drastic cost savings now that I'm CDing #2! Fingers crossed they last for #3 as well so I can really see my savings
I still haven't figured out overnight CDing though. I don't know that we've gone one leak-free night in the last like 5 months. Soooo many sheets and blankets to wash I'm about to just do sposies for night.
