If your second was born before your first was potty trained, what did you do? Buy more diapers? Use disposables for the newborn?

Since I use sized covers, I will probably just buy more inserts (not pregnant, just thinking about it). I have Thirsties covers in XS and size 1 (the size 1 covers will fit until baby is 18 pounds).

We had enough but I had to buy a few XS Thirsties covers and flats because LO had sensitive skin and always got rashes with microfiber diapers. I had two in cloth for 11 months...I don't miss the laundry!

We use bum genius 4.0s. We purchased additional diapers for baby #2, I think I ended up with 18 more. Now I'm trying to figure out our washing schedule, because we used to do Tues, Thurs, Sun but I don't know if well need to wash more often now.

I'm planning to buy a few more BG diapers...we have 4.0s and Freestyles at the moment, and thankfully more than we need! I'll probably buy like 6-8 more of whichever I find a better deal on just to be safe. We are about to get a new washer and dryer and I'm super stoked! Ours are pretty crappy and once there are twice as many diapers to wash I think I'll need (deserve? ha) better ones.

I used g diapers with my first and saved them all, so will reuse them again this time. I have a whole bunch of newborn and small size diapers for the new baby and my older one is in size large until she is potty trained.

I originally bought one size pockets for L (who will be 18 months when Sister is born), and ended up buying some newborn sizes for Sister. I have enough to share after that if I am VERY diligent about my wash routine - which means that I will likely be supplementing with disposables
REALLY hoping L is a rock star who potty trains by 2!

This isn't looking good for me haha i have a very small stash to begin with and only bought one size diapers. Looks like we will probably be using some disposables. Maybe i could do a newborn rental program...ill have to cost compare...disposables may actually be cheaper.

We do sized diapers. But if we didn't already have those, I'd probably just buy some small prefolds and a few small covers, since that would be the cheapest way to go about it. Or, if I thought my older LO would be potty trained in the near future, I'd just use disposables.

Bumping this to ask again...has anyone dealt with this? I am thinking about buying a used newborn stash (i think i want all in ones) and then selling them again after we are done with them. We used so so many diapers in the beginning...i cant see buying that many os diapers since they cost about double. Thoughts? Has anyone used nb diapers and have a preference for brand?

I did a newborn rental with DS and it was a mix of brands and styles. The only ones that worked for us were the fitted and prefolds. I'm lucky because my sister age me her stash of newborn prefolds and covers so we will be using those with #2 while DS is still using the AIOs.

I've been wondering about this, too… We have 24 BG 4.0s and while LO#1 is down to 5-6 during the day (we use disposables at night), I don't think I will have enough leftover for LO#2 unless I do a lot of wash! I was thinking about buying maybe 6-10 more.

I have an excessive stash of BGs to begin with, but did buy sized fuzzibuns before I knew I preferred BGs (and the excessive stash) so he can wear the FBs and she has the BGs.
I beefed up my stash before returning to work with #1 and had a full weeks stash for her at daycare and at home so I didn't have the stress/added work of stuffing through the week for daycare. Didn't even think about #2 and now I have a solid amount with both at home. By the time they are in daycare again she should be out of them, and I will have that big stash again for daycare.

@Mrs. Lion: I will be buying more NB and reselling after. The cost would've worked out the first time around so I'm assuming it would the second (I kept some of them, sold some of them). I HATED prefolds/fitteds & covers on a newborn, they were unbelievably bulky.

@scg00387: this is what i am afraid of. I like the rumparooz lil joeys (our stash now is almost all rumparooz and i have loved them) but they are so expensive i want to make sure its worth it. I dont know anyone who has used nbs in real life. We started when lo was 3 months old.

@Mrs. Lion: I have one BG Newborn diaper and I loved it. Next time, I'm getting NB Lil Joeys or BG NB diapers.

We will either buy newborn size on consignment or rent some, and then add 10-12 more BGs to our stash.

@Mrs. Lion: The Rumparooz leaked horribly for us. We started with some Lil Joeys, and some fitteds/covers. The fitteds/covers worked better in terms of containment, but they were really bulky. We got rid of the Lil Joeys almost right away. Not too long after we switched to Peachy Greens, which I LOVED. They are sized, and so worked really well for Lorelei who was really tiny. For cost savings, though, some inserts/covers, or flats (or prefolds) and covers are great. I just found that with Lorelei her booty exponetially expanded and so if we had clothes that fit the padded tush, she was swimming everywhere else. Lorelei has been in cloth since she was out from under the oxygen hood (so day two I think). Before that we had them with, but weren't allowed to use them because we didn't get to change her diapers at that point.

@Mrs. Lion: I was seriously so glad that we did; I waffled before I bought them. When you're changing like 12 dipes a day, it feels good to not be paying over and over again We had lil joeys & BG newborn AIOS. I'll probably extend that mix out. Thirsties duos in size 1 were a good in between NB & OS for us.

@Mrs. Twine: where did you find that brand? I have never heard of them before. That's a bummer about the Lil joeys. Did you find putting a prefolds and cover on a newborn to be a pain. My husband has gotten pretty used to cloth but I do pockets mostly...I want to make it easy on him since hopefully I will be nursing and he will be helping a lot with diapers....
@scg00387: did you have a preference between the bgs and Lil joeys? Any issues with either?
Thanks ladies!!

@Mrs. Lion: I found them online doing a search for trim cloth diapers. Pretty much everyone agreed that they were the most similar in profile to a disposable.
As for prefolds and covers on a newborn... Mr. T did say after having tried them that he didn't know why he had always been so initimidated by them. I don't think they're much harder, but they are lots cheaper. That's pretty tempting. We do some covers/prefolds now in our stash.
