I heard you shouldn't put LO in a car seat with a coat on, but then how do you keep them warm in the winter? Last winter she was in the infant car seat so it wasn't a big issue, but now she is in a convertible.
How do you keep them warm, but still maintain their safety?

Warm the car before going out, wrap them in a blanket, or if it's really cold I believe snow suits (where they're full body & zip almost like jammies do) are okay.
I think it's just one of those things inconvenient things you do to keep the littles safe.

Snow suits are not okay, especially if they are puffy. They can compress in an accident, causing the straps not to be tight enough.
Thin fleece is okay and a blanket over the straps.

@looch: Eek! I thought I saw something in the car seat the other day that atleast resembled a snow suit?.... I'll definitely have to double check, maybe it was something else!
It doesn't get that cold her so we've just always used a blanket!

Get a snuggie! It's perfect for car seats!
You can put the coat on backward after you buckle them in. Thin fleece is good.

You have to be careful if the are filled with something like down or fiberfill, because they have air in the filler.
Puffers are a big obvious no.

@looch: I just checked & it was a fleece body suit thing... so not really a "snow suit" (they just looked the same to me so I assumed) and it's not puffy... but was something that still covered the lo from head to toe.

Thinner fleece is okay. We wait to put jackets on until we get to our destination. A 15 second walk to the car isn't going to hurt her.
