LO is 8 months and has his first cold. He had a really runny nose and is having trouble breathing through his nose. Today, he was not the slightest bit interested in nursing. I think it's because he can't nurse and breathe through his mouth at the same time, but I'm worried about him not eating. He had some solids today, but nothing close to what he usually eats.
Did your LO eat/nurse very little when sick?

I would just nosefrida him before nursing--that always helped my LO. Hope he feels better!

try nursing in with a shower after nose frida/salining! We've always found he eats fewer solids if he's stuffy, but nursing usually stays the same.

usually my LO would nurse less...i would get really stressed out over it, but the doc said its probably because she was swallowing all the snot and that was filling up her stomach so she wasn't hungry. gross, i know.

@mrsbookworm: I don't nurse, I EP but yes...my LO has hardly been eating while she's been sick, probably for the same reason. We've done everything--steam showers, nose frida a 7-8 times a day, breathing treatments. She's just starting to kick it and it's been almost 2 weeks. it sucks!

Thanks for all your help! It's definitely stressful, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. I'll try the steam shower then.

LO eats less until I put breastmilk up his nose. I take expressed milk in a medicine syringe and shoot it up. The milk clears up the congestion - similar to saline but more pleasant. It sounds weird but it works!

@MusicaV: I never thought about putting bm in a syringe. When people talk about putting bm up the nose, but I wasn't thinking logically in how it got up there. 
now I can!!!

I agree with clearing his nose out before nursing helps a great deal. But he does eat less when he's sick, but once he's better, he makes up for lost ground.
