The city select is much nicer and had a great resale value. I see people unloading contour doubles all the time.

I asked this on my local moms' group and got a big NOPE to the Contours. Everyone (mostly twin mamas) said they sold it by the time the babies were 1 because it was too hard to maneuver with heavier kids. I guess it depends on how you'd use it, though. These were city moms, and in general the City Select is a more rugged stroller (big wheels), but is shorter in overall length (a pro in the city...maybe a con in the suburbs, since it means less leg/basket room).

@PinkElephant: We would use it more for walks/trips!
Does the Contour let one child lay down w/infant seat?!
grapefruit / 4584 posts
Not sure as I have the City Select...which doesn't really let one kid lay totally flat, since the seats are "bent"...you need the bassinet/car seat attachment. My guess is Contours is similar.
If you're just walking in shopping malls or flat residential sidewalks, you might be fine with the contours. I think a new one costs similar to a used City Select; not sure what used Contours go for (or what condition they tend to be in after one family uses them). I'm actually the third owner of my City Select and anticipate passing it on yet again after this baby!

@PinkElephant: Thank you! All new territory for me!!!
Do you know any good websites to buy used?!

@snowjewelz: I am leaning that way! Sine our DD's will be young still I think it will.be a good investment!

We have the city select and I love it! The only thing is, it's heavy to lift in and out of our car (Honda CRV). But other than that, no complaints. We also have the glider board attachment for when DD1 doesn't feel like sitting.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
@FaithFertility: Craig's list or local parenting listserv (check Facebook and Yahoo).
Also consider that you might want to wait til baby #2 is bigger to decide. I have the exact same age gap and mostly wore DD#2 and pushed DD1 in a single stroller for the first year.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@PinkElephant: that is my hope, but DD HATED being worn so I am scared he will too!

I don't have any experience with the Contours, but I do have a City Select and love it. My kids will be 30 months apart, so one of the best things to me is that it can be a single or a double. Since around 2 years old we haven't used the stroller much, but it's great to still have the double option. I wouldn't really want to have to take a double everywhere if I didn't really need to though.

I don't know if they're even necessarily on the same level as one another. I have had the City Select for just over 3 years now and it's a great stroller- maneuvers well, handles all kinds of terrain, many seating combinations, folds easily, etc. I don't know anything about the Contours but I'd definitely choose the City Select!

We have a city select and love it! I don't know anything about the contour but the cs is great. My kids are 20.5 months apart and we're still using it at 3.5 and almost 2. Maneuvers well and is pretty light (for a double stroller)

I also have the City Select. I bought it as our stroller when we had our 1st with the intention of having our 2nd 2-3 years later so we could utilize it as a double (more bang for my buck if I use it earlier on).
DD is not even 3 months and we've used the crap out of our city select as a double and I love it!! The ease of maneuvering is awesome and the large basket is also great!
My friend looked into the contours and she also said the biggest complaint was how hard it was to maneuver with bigger/heavier kids. However, like @oliviaoblivia: mentioned, I see the contour for sale on my local FB garage sale sites all the time. Not so much for the City Select.

I tried both and liked the Contour better for maneuverability. DH didn't like that it seemed more flimsy, but the price difference was so huge! We ended up getting a side by side instead (the Britax double) because I decided I didn't want a front to back for various reasons.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Mrs. Lion: Do u mind me asking he reasons?! Originally I wanted the Britax until I saw these!
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@FaithFertility: Side by side is much easier to maneuver (it always fits through doors, as long as you hit them at the right angle, and I can push with one hand if I need to) and it folds up much easier than either tandem. I also didn't like the idea of having to remove a seat to put it in my trunk. I also like that the kids are side by side so that they can see each other but can't so easily kick each other haha And both have a great view when we go for walks.

We registered for the Contours for our twins, but I was really eyeing the City Select. We actually got the Contours delivered to our home but when I went home for my baby shower, my brother gave me his City Select. I am so grateful that he did it. We returned the Contours. When I tried both strollers in Buy Buy Baby, the City Select was definitely smoother and easier to maneuver. But it was the price tag that detered me from putting it on my registy.
If you live near a Buy Buy Baby, I would highly recommend trying out those two strollers.

@Mrs. Lion: @FaithFertility: So I know Twodoghouse and other twin moms use a side by side stroller (TDH has a Bumbleride indie twin) for her twins and I know some other twin moms (including myself) go for the tandem back to front stroller. I wanted something narrow enough to get through the crowds and I didn't want to worry about fitting through doors. I did recently find an amazing deal on a display model for the Bumbleride indi twin (side by side) stroller. I thought it was a perfect time to get it before our planned zoo trip this past weekend. The bumbleride is lighter than the City select but in all honesty, I still prefer my City Select. I found pushing a side by side stroller to be more annoying because it took up the entire sidewalk. I would have to wait for people to clear the sidewalk before I could move. With the back to front strollers, you could still allow people to continue walking as you push a stroller past.

@bluestriped bee: I think it definitely matters where you will be using it! I almost always just put the kids in a cart at the grocery store or target, and walks in our neighborhood are on the side of the road (not sidewalk), so the issue you mentioned hasn't come up for us really The few times we have been in a crowded place with the stroller and confined to a sidewalk though (festivals downtown) I have definitely had that issue. Oh, and trying to get to through the Boston aquarium last summer was a nightmare! I just figured it would have been that way regardless, but it probably would have been easier with a tandem. Good point!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Mrs. Lion: Yeah, I figured if you have a side by side stroller, you get used to it. Since now I own both, I can see the pros and cons. My son has been on an anti-car seat and stroller kick when he is fussy so I actually had to babywear him for half the time we were at the zoo. So having the twins conveniently side by side really didn't happen. My sister said her son had a phase around 8/9 months that he hated the stroller. I think I'm still going to keep the indie twin for now. It actually has a good resale value so I know I can sell it for what I paid when I do sell it.

@bluestriped bee: @Mrs. Lion: Thank you ladies! These are the things I want to hear!
We would use it mainly for zoos, museums, and downtown so tandem seems more appropriate!!!

What about the Britax b-ready? It has the tandem option. We LOVE our b-ready as a single stroller. We also have a City-Mini and love it too.
Personally I would avoid the Britax B-Agile double, I dislike the incline on that stroller (we had the single) and I was so glad to get rid of it.
Oh, I just looked up the City Select - they have some great tandem options. Probably disregard all that I said except the bit about the Britax double
eggplant / 11861 posts
@MamaG: I will look into the b-ready!
Ughhh I agree with u on the incline with our Britax drives me nuts
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@FaithFertility: Ugh that is the only thing I dislike about this stroller!
@MamaG: We specifically didn't get the B-ready because of the arrangements of the seats. I hated that one of the kids was sitting behind AND under the other. Do you think that will be an issue?
pomelo / 5298 posts
@Mrs. Lion: Yes, I agree now that I look at how the City Select configures. But from the Britax line, I really don't like the B-Agile. I wanted to love it, but I just didn't.
Thankfully this isn't my issue But, I'd probably either get the City Select or go for City Mini Double. I'm not sure I'm convinced on the tandem. But I don't have to navigate a double so my opinion is pretty much useless.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
@MamaG: the City Mini double is probably the most popular side by side double stroller in my neighborhood - I think the fold is good for small living spaces/lugging it up brownstone stairs?
pear / 1616 posts
Chiming in about the b ready. I've had it before and it's definitely not as good as the city select! We actually sold our b ready for the city select. The b ready is way heavier and the two kid configurations aren't as good as the city select.

We have a very narrow side by side, the MB Duet. It's smaller in length and width than most of the tandem doubles. For sure smaller than the Contours, Vista and the Select.
A lot of people skip past side by sides thinking that they take up the whole side walk etc. But the Duet is easier to push than both the select and vista (I've owned both) and sails through tight spaces.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
@oliviaoblivia: what happens if you put your oldest and youngest side by side in it? I've heard that with a big weight difference in kids, side by side doubles can be hard to push. By older two are less than 5 lbs apart; always thinking about options for baby #3 though...I'd love sonethibg lighter than my City Select but won't do anything with two handles, so umbrellas are out...stroller addict here!
pineapple / 12793 posts
@PinkElephant: no problem at all. Baby sister is really big though. 18 pounds at four months. I'm liking the Valco Snap Duo Ultra right not but don't want to move to a wider stroller.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
@oliviaoblivia: are they still selling the duo overseas? In the US they have stopped production and will re-release at the end of 2016/early 2017. They're out of stock everywhere! I found a used one I might pull the trigger on tomorrow though.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@catomd00: it's being released in Canada (don't know about the US) next month. They have been at all the local baby shows this season.

I bought a used Contours and I don't like it. I think I've used it three times and DH only used it once. I'm keeping my baby in the ergo and DD in a single. Baby is just turning 1 and LO1 is 3. I'm hanging onto the Contours in case LO2 refuses to be worn once he walks I'm not looking forward to it. We'd probably take two single strollers if both kids needed to sit but DH and I both WOH. Not an option for someone that spends a lot of time alone with two kids.

I don't think there is a perfect double stroller (take it from the woman who has three). I bought the Contours after borrowing a friend's City Select for the weekend. I liked the City Select but went with the Contours because you don't have to take a seat off to fold it.
However, of the three strollers, I probably use it the least. I find side by side strollers easier to manage and my kids get along better in the side by side. Someone is always kicking someone in the tandem!

I have a contours because we just couldn't afford another nice stroller once our Phil and Ted's broke. It is very long, but surprisingly maneuverable. It handles going over grass and rough ground well. On the rare occasions that my 40lb 3yo gets a ride, it is a little harder to handle, but two 25lb toddlers is no problem. The basket is great, it folds and brakes easily, and the carseat adapter is simple. I don't love, love it, but it works well and is very sturdy.
