How easy are convertible car seats to install? Did you buy one for each car? I drop LO off at day care and DH picks her up, plus LO has to be able to go in the day care lady's car. Would we be able to swap one around or are we going to have to get 3? Do you have another suggestin for us?

Hmm, they are fairly easy to install but we ended up getting one for each car. We went with britax for ours, but got a more expensive model for the primary car she drives in, and a cheaper one for the secondary car. I know that you could uninstall and reinstall it--I see some at our daycare center so I know people do it--but it seems like it would get old quickly and I would be nervous about safety.
We spread out the financial hit by buying the primary one first and leaving the infant seat in the other car for another month or two. I also know there are some more affordable options I have seen on here--I think one by Cosco and one by Evenflo? that have been recommended for grandma's car. Those might be appropriate for the daycare?

@MamaCate: I found a Cosco one from Walmart/Amazon for around $40, so that might be a good daycare option. Costco sells a nice convertible for about $90, so we may go that way too. I'm also thinking (and I swore I'd never do this!) that I might find a second hand one for daycare.

We're still using the infant sear in other cars, but eventually we'll have to get a second. Maybe you could ask other daycare parents if they have one to sell? Then you would have a better chance if knowing if it had been in an accident before.

I used latch and while relatively straightforward I wouldn't want to have to do that daily, for sure

I think if you could find a second hand one that you could trust (aka that it hasn't been in an accident or kept in high heat). Being in Florida we store our car seats in the house because I don't trust that the 100degree heat and humidity won't disintegrate the straps and foam. If you read most manuals they advice to store in normal temperatures too.
We bought two for our cars because they are a pain to switch around and get installed really well. It honestly takes me about 10 minutes to climb in, clip either side in with the LATCH. Climb in and push down on the seat, pull the LATCH straps, etc etc.

We bought two ... ditto @sorrycharlie in that it wasn't too bad to install (Britax Marathon), but not something I'd want to do every day, for sure.
I think Graco Smart Seat has a base, but it's really pricey.

I have a Cosco Scenera and it is difficult to get a good rear facing install, so bear that in mind.
I have three, and they're all permanently installed.

@looch: The scenera was the one that I was thinking about. Daycare has a pretty big vehicle, Suburban I think?, so would it be easier to install in that?

@MaisyMay: It's not the car, it's the seat. If you plan to install it forward facing, it's not a problem,, but when you install it rear facing, you often need a pool noodle or a towel to get the correct incline.
I'd get a Graco My Ride, it's a breeze to install and you can find it at Walmart for less than $100.

We have the same issue and we are just going to bite the bullet and buy two when the time comes. I worry about the safety because I don't like the idea of rushing/struggling to install it and uninstall it multiple times a day. I want it to be safely and securely installed once and then to stay put.
