This summer we are doing a long road trip from nc up through ocean city md, then providence ri, them boston, then bar harbor, then bridgewater nh, then to see family in upstate ny, then back to nc. Anybody have any can't miss things we should see or do in any of those locations, or in between as we pass through?

If you have a day to spend in Philadelphia, the children's museum there is amazing. We live near Boston and have been to the Boston and Rochester NY museums but Philly's blows both of them out of the water! You could easily spend a full day there too, it's called the Please Touch Museum.

If you're just stopping on your way through the Boston Common/Public Gardens are fun to visit with the Make Way For Ducklings and swan boats.

Live music, fun food and it's really pretty to see. -

Fuuuun!!! I went to college near ocean city. The boardwalk is a lot of fun just to walk down. Make sure you get thrashers Boardwalk fries and eat them with vinegar.

So fun! My family is actually from the Bridgewater, NH area! Newfound Lake is beautiful (I may be biased) as is the nearby town of Meredith. There are some quaint bookstores and scenic boat rides if you are interested in that sort of thing. There is also Wellington State Park where you could swim, hike a bit, have a picnic, etc. Have fun!

If you have time in Boston, I've heard good things about the duck boat tour (we haven't tried yet since LO is only 20 months but an older toddler might enjoy it).
We go to the Boston Museum of Science and the New England Aquarium all the time and we love both. It's good to go early in the day because they are popular and get crowded.

@Mrs. Lion: it's fun! they have lots of music and street performers. LO loves the kettle corn.
It's at night, so I bring the stroller in case he gets tired and wants to lie down while we stroll. -
@rachiecakes: Fun! We are going to be driving from Ocean City MD that day, so we are hoping he will sleep in the car and be okay staying up late that night
The stroller is a great idea though. We might go ahead and bring the double instead of just an umbrella stroller...that will be much more comfortable.

In Providence, there is an amazing farmers market that's a LOT of fun. Wednesdays & Saturdays through the summer with entertainment and food trucks.

In Bar Harbor, you should definitely check out Acadia and the small down town area. Both are amazing!

I'm probably way too late to this, but I lived in New England for 7 years, and there is SO much to see and do! One cool thing to do if it's not too far away is to go to the Butterfly Museum in Deerfield, MA. It's right off the interstate, and depending on your route from NH/VT may be a fun pit stop
I went with my niece and nephew when they were pre-school/elementary age and they LOVED it.

Awesome thread, I totally missed it earlier! We have a wedding in NH next month, so this helps! We want to check out the surrounding states, see a ballgame at Fenway, some beach time, a few local breweries, Cabot Creamery, and Mt. Washington.
