I'm starting the Couch to 5K today! I used to be a bit of a runner, but injured my knee a year ago and haven't run since! I'm excited to get back into shape running again. Anyone want to join me?

I've been considering this too! I enjoyed running in hs (on my own, not for the school) but also have knee issues and my doctor advised me to stop.
My dad is a runner, and I've been curious what all the fuss is about
What does couch to 5k involve?

I loooooooove C25K!!!
That will be my goto for weight loss after I have this little one!

@sorrycharlie: I just finished Physical Therapy for my knee - and they said running should be fine as long as I start out slow! The C25K is a walk/jog program that leads up to a 5k in about 8 weeks. It starts out with significantly more walking, takes about 30 minutes - and it's only a 3-day a week training program!

I will! I really need to start exercising again. I did my first 5k this summer, and I'm sad to say, I haven't ran since!

@MrsBrewer: You can do it! I'm totally in need of some motivation and accountability - that's why I posted on here!

@Mrs.Ham: We can cheer each other on!! So when are you starting?? Tonight?

I got to week 3 and then had to quit for a few weeks due to shinsplints.
I'd love to get back into it!

@loveisstrange: Shin splints are the worst!! For me, I was just getting calf cramps, my calves would just be insanely sore, so much so that even just walking hurt!

@MrsBrewer: Yes, I plan on starting tonight! I'll definitely cheer you on! Do you know if/when you are starting?
coconut / 8854 posts
@Mrs.Ham: Awesome! You know what.....I will start it tonight too! right when I get home from work I think. I have a treadmill in my basement so it will work

Good luck! I love C25K- and I would join you if I weren't still healing up (4 weeks pp). I'll start again in the spring though- you'll be a pro by then!

@MrsBrewer: You can do it! We'll have to check back in to keep each other motivated! We don't have a treadmill - so I'll either be going outside in the cold, or hitting the gym

I've done it a few times in the past and love it! Last week I decided to start on Week 2. So I'm on Week 3 now... Just finished Week 3, Day 2 this morning!

I started running again but fell off the wagon when we had a hellacious month if sickness and sleep deprivation. I need to get back to it, so I'll join, though I'm not following C25K exactly, but doing a similar run-walk strategy.

I need to get back on the wagon too! Thanks for the encouragement!!

I would love to join! I did couch to 5k awhile ago and really got into running as a result. I haven't run in a year though (pregnancy and recovery) but I'm ready to get back into it.

1.75 miles mostly running this morning!
Do any of you have a race planned?
coconut / 8854 posts
@Mrs.Ham: I totally failed! Although I had one hell of a day yesterday. I went home on lunch to let me dog out, and I get back in my car to go back to work, and my car was stuck in Park! I couldn't get it to go into Drive.....ugh...So I had to get my car towed to the dealership So it was a little stressful and I ran out of time
I hope you were still about to start it!

I've bee seriously considering this! We have a color run schedule here in November (just over 8 weeks out) that I thought would be fun. I'm so not a runner though so I haven't been able to get myself to commit yet...

@runsyellowlites: I'm not a runner either! Buuttt this program is awesome! It makes you feel sooo accomplished once you finish a workout! It's amazing for your self esteem (at least it was for me!)
cherry / 212 posts
@MrsBrewer: Oh my goodness - I wouldn't have gotten to it either if I had that day. I'm so sorry - everything okay with your car? I started last night! Not sure how I'm going to fit it in the rest of the week, but I'll find room somewhere!

@pastemoo: Yay! Glad to have another one join! I got my info here (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml).

@Mrs.Ham: Yay that's awesome!!! Good job for doing it last night!!
The garage called me this morning and said something about shifter connectors or something being broke. It's $290 to fix it, so it could have been way worse! But they told me that would have it done today, and their shuttle service would come pick me up when it's done. Can't complain too much!

@MrsBrewer: Thanks!
Good, i'm glad the car's not in too bad of shape. And good that you can use the shuttle service!

@pastemoo: I downloaded this free iPhone app.. looks like the same program @Mrs.Ham: listed!

Heading to the gym again tonight after work for C25K day 2! Who else is going tonight?
nectarine / 2134 posts
@Mrs.Ham: good for you!!
I'm definitely a morning workout person, too much stuff comes up at the end of the day and then I can never make it to the gym.
Upped to 3miles this morning -- I'm toying with training for a Half Marathon in December. I've never done one!
How is everyone else doing?

I'm signed up for a 5k on Saturday (color run) and another one the following week where all proceeds go to a Children's Hospital here in town. I love C25k:)
You girls can do this! It is fun!
I did everyday day though instea of 3d/w. because 1) I was already some what a runner 2) I didn't have 7 weeks to devote to it.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@Mrs.Ham: I remember that you posted this when talking to DH about signing up for a 5K a month from now... looking into this today - I think i'm going to try it! we BADLY need to start working out!
we don't belong to a gym since we're going to be moving and not sure which town --- but to get from my train to my office i usually take a shuttle bus, i'm thinking of bringing running stuff and running through the city instead of taking the bus. it's only 1.6 miles. i wonder how long it will take me to walk/run at first... i'll have to bring a backpack to carry my purse & clothes in...

Well, I only did days 1 and 2 last week - then I had a bridal shower, wedding, rehearsal, day with the nephews, and cookout this weekend - made that workout a little tricky! I'm going to try again this week!

Just wanted to chime in with a little encouragement. I did Couch to 5k a few years ago and have run a handful of 5Ks since. It was so hard to get started, but then I started loving it! Good luck to all of you! Don't be to hard on yourself if you miss a day or two here or there - the important part is just to keep moving forward.

I started C25k this morning. I really hate running, but I actually quite enjoyed it. There is something really peaceful about being out at 6am and feeling like I did something positive for my health afterwards. I will do day 2 on Thursday morning.

@plantains: Good for you! Keep up the hard work! I skipped a week, so finished week 1 on Sunday. Week 2 start tomorrow.

Just wanted to cheer you guys on... I started running last January after "hating it" for years and I've never looked back. I'm about to do my 2nd half marathon. Just take it slow and stick with it!
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@Mrs.Ham: go you!!! keep up the hard work.
@psw27: very inspiring, thanks for the encouragement.
