Here's another article on the story for those who wanted another source, from Fox News. http://foxnewsinsider.com/2013/04/30/police-take-baby-away-family-wanted-second-medical-opinion

I dont think the video is that fishy. Its probably a computers webcam. News video I saw said she set it up when she realized the police were outside.

Anyway, they had their hearing yesterday and the judge removed the baby from the protective custody of the hospital that reported them and he is being evaluated by a 3rd party hospital. They are being forced to comply with medical advice from here on out.

Honestly, i think this Sutter hospital is full of it and the whole thing is ridiculous.

@zippylef: I just saw this update too! I could've understood Sutter's position if they had taken the child home, but authorities saw the child at the other hospital & saw the doctor there discharge them. If I went through that & saw police at my door without a warrant (what I read on the updated article) I would've had my phone recording too!

@stargal: After multiple personal experiences this is out stance on taking any of our family members to the hospital, especially my children. We've been able to treat most all illnesses at home without issue (including strep I had). I'm well informed, know my rights as a patient/parent, & definitely don't classify myself as "the crazies", I just know first hand what it's like to be bullied into treatment plans you aren't we'll informed on (since you're just hearing about them) or don't agree with.

At least the parents are being reunited and taken away from that first hospital. I don't like that they're being forced to comply with all medical advice.

@runsyellowlites: not calling put anyone crazies whocdisagree with drs or want another opinion. Im more referring to ppl who will treat major health problems in thwir home inatead of gettong proper care bc of articles like this. They put fear into peoples minds abput drs and hospitals. Its a us vs them mentality that i hate. Sorry should of been more specific. I think its pwrefectly fine to treat your child at home for minor incidents but things like this are in need of medical attention. To compare strep throat to a serious heart condition isn't a fair comparison. Surely.of your child had a serious heart condition you would go to the hospital. And if they were going to switch different hospital to get a second opinion they should of properly discharged themselves...

I don't think we have all the information in this case. We don't know his heart condition, the risks attributed with him leaving against medical advice, If there were other things seen by the staff while he was in the hospital.

I don't really like stories like this because we can't possibly hear all sides due to privacy laws .

This is on GMA now. It sounds the same as the articles state.

@mrsmenow: the interview with the parents said it's a heart murmur.

@Mrs. Polish: there are several different kinds of murmurs with different causes. Some can be fatal while some resolve on their own. Unless the parents release the child' s medical record or sign a release for the doctors to comment the story is incomplete.

ETA: i just think if you are going to the media with the intention of hurting someone's career you should be forthcoming with all the relevant information.
