I am just curious, if you had really bad period cramps growing up, were your BH and very early contractions really painful too? Or did some with bad period cramps have light and easy BH?
I seem to be having really intense (what I'm assuming are BH) and I'm just wondering if there's a correlation since I used to have horrible period cramps growing up.

I had horrible period cramps growing up. I had hardly any BH and towars the very end, when I did get them I remember thinking I had definitely had worse menstrual cramps than the BH. Even in labor it was a whole before the contractions were worse than my worst cramps.

I had horrible cramps growing up, and when I was pregnant I had very early and frequent BH contractions. They started around 16 weeks. The only difference is that the BH contractions weren't ever painful. They got more uncomfortable towards the end when he was much bigger, but they didn't cause me to be in pain. My early contractions were pretty manageable, and not as bad as my worst period cramps until I was in actual labor.

I had menstral cramps so bad that I would throw up from the pain each month. That being said, I had BH contractions constantly (like, 5-10 per hour), starting around 19 weeks. They were uncomfortable (because it's annoying to have your stomach hard as a rock that often), but never painful. When I went into labor, the early contractions felt like mild period cramps, getting progressively stronger. But once my water broke, the contractions were worse than any menstrual cramp I've ever had.
If you are having painful or period-like cramps, you should call your doctor right away.

@BabyBoecksMom: Yes this has me pretty concerned. The two cramps I've gotten which have awoken me from sleep have been really strong, last about 10 mins or more and then go away. I go in to see my doctor Tuesday. Do you think this is soon enough or do you really think I need to call earlier?

@marionberry: Dr google, tells me these period like cramps are basically the thinning of your cervix which can happen sometimes a few weeks before going into labour....so we are at 36 weeks, so it might be this?

@Mrs squirreld: that's what I just googled too. I think as long as baby seems fine I'm going to wait until Tuesday and just talk to my doctor. Maybe we're just the unlucky ones who get them pretty strong.

I normally have horrible cramps but haven't noticed any BH at all and I've only started getting mild cramps in the last few days. I've read that cramps could be because you are dialating, which would be awesome, since you are full term next week!

I didn't have bad cramps growing up. BH were normal with my first, but were really intense with my 2nd. I'm thinking it had to do with the fact that I was still nursing my 1st.

@Grace: I can't believe you still haven't had your little one! How crazy would it be if you became a September mom and one of us became an August one?! I'm actually not wanting to dilate too much since my doctor isn't back for a week and I'd really like him to be the one doing my c-section (if he's still breech), but if I can dilate without going into labor, that would be perfect!

@Mrs squirreld: when I was in the hospital Thursday, they checked me because the contractions were frequent and never said anything about them being BH and they felt like menstruel cramping.

@marionberry: My understanding is you can be dialated for weeks without anything happening. And haha - shut yo mouth. I want the baby this week!!

@marionberry: I had terrible period pains, even as an adult I'd get them for one whole day just before my period started and nearly always had to take painkillers. My BH/contractions whatever they are have been pretty strong as well, but not quite as intense as period pains would be. They started at 32wks and I would get them one day a week or so... for the last week or two I've had them most days, usually in the evening/night. Today I had them pretty bad during the afternoon... Dh & I went on a 5 mile hike and half way through my cramps were really bad I started to worry a little.

@marionberry: Sorry I'm so late to respond. I would just try to take it easy, rest and drink lots of water until your appt on Tuesday. I still think you should call and tell them what's going on so they can give you a professional opinion. How far along are you?

@marionberry: I talked to my dr today, and she wasn't worried at all. She said unless they are timeable or regular she isn't concerned.
