So a crazy post came up on my newsfeed today. A girl posted a pic of herself saying goodbye to her mother in a coffin. It was from a wake over a year ago. I acknowledge that she is in pain, but feel that a pic like this is inappropriate for Facebook. You can see a dead body!!!!

One of my friends was in veterinarian school. She used to post pictures of animals in surgery every now and then. I'm not taking behind a sheet. I'm taking up close, showing the organs, blood everywhere, mid-surgery. Gross. Nobody wants to see that just glancing through their newsfeed. It was always captioned with something like, "Being able to get this tumor out will save little Racer's life! What an honor it is to be a vet!"

My cousin posted a potty training update PHOTO with her son on the toilet reading a book and you could see the poop coming out. She took it down pretty quickly after some outrage from some family members. Haha
Before that she had posted a photo of him pooping in the yard.

I had one (Facebook) friend who would report on the status of her cervix after every OB visit from 36 weeks on. I was happy for her having a baby but just didn't need to know she was 3 cm dilated.

This was definetley WTF at the time and I wonder how I would react now. We were two years out of high school (most classmates in college posting college fb pics) and a classmate of mine posting an entire album of his twins that were born stillborn. 
I was scarred and def had a wtf moment.
Not sure how I would react to that today.

I once had a friend share a video where some doctors were poking at a 12 week old fetus in an amniotic sac that had just been taken from a mother. It was one of those videos that automatically started playing when you scrolled by. I have no idea how something like that is even possible, or if it was real, but it was so disturbing. I unfriended her.

A relative of mine often posts heavily photoshopped selfies. Those themselves aren't so so crazy, but she gets so many inappropriate comments from men (she is married), and she leaves them up, likes them, etc.

An acquaintance from high school posted a few weeks ago that he had been kidnapped and taken hostage and that he thought it might be aliens. Turns out he had taken a lot of drugs and then law enforcement was called, and he was taken into custody and sent to medical. Sad.

@artsyfartsy: gross! I can't even stand statuses about potty training, let alone a PHOTO!
@LibbyLou: this is one I have to disagree with. Moms are proud of their beautiful babies, and deserve to share them. It's so so sad, but my comfort isn't more important than their right to share, and their grief. I had a friend share a beautiful photo of her stillborn baby a year and a half ago, and I completely understood why she needed to do that.

This girl I went to highschool with kept posting selfies with her dying grandpa... Like, he was in bad shape and didn't even seem to be conscious. I'm just like why not post older pictures from when he was healthy. It seemed disrespectful to me.
She also went to another friend's grandpa's funeral around the same time and took a bunch of car selfies beforehand with the caption "going to a funeral!" And she was smiling and making silly faces... So weird to me...

@Alba4: When my husband's grandparents passed away (both within a few months) a couple of his cousins posted a bunch of selfies with their deceased bodies and at the open casket funerals. I was really shocked and I actually still am, but i guess it was nice for my husband to see his grandparents at peace since his family is halfway around the globe.

@MrsGeePerez: I guess the idea of a selfie with a dead relative is just really strange to me. And beyond that, why post it to a public place? It's one thing to share with close relatives in a text and another to share with every person you know on social media.

Oh I have another one that I just remembered!
Someone stuck their hand in a snowblower and cut several of their fingers off and posted a gruesome photo of it before and after medical treatment. My stomach still flips when I think about it.

I'm off FB, but my best friend told me a friend of hers posted a picture of her 5-year-old's body after she'd passed away from cancer. after reading this thread I am astonished at how common this apparently is!

The worst thing I've seen was a whole saga. An acquaintance from high school became an addict (cocaine/heroin/both I'm not sure) and had 3 kids with 3 different fathers she met in jail then rehab.
Over the past year or so she had a new boyfriend she was constantly posting to/about, fluctuating between lovey dovey crap and then about what a horrible a-hole he was and things were over between them, etc. Rinse and repeat. This included one post of her in the ER with her face battered and bruised saying he abused her, but a week later, back to lovey dovey stuff. Then she announced she was pregnant with his baby, announced they were engaged, and then posted ultrasound photos saying she was 10 weeks along. A week or two later, a post about what a terrible horrible person he was, an addict without sobriety, and he was in jail.
They're no longer together I guess and someone recently commented on one of her photos asking if she was having a baby and she responded "Nope."
The whole thing is super sad, really, but I can't fathom why she posted EVERYTHING to FB.

A co-worker had a bunch of posts (with tons of responses, mostly negative thankfully) about how the Holocaust wasn't real. It sort of blew my mind that I would know anyone that would believe that.

@LCTBQE: @Alba4: I know it is shocking to think about someone posting a photo of a dead person but everyone grieves differently. At 28 weeks we found out our baby had a potentially fatal kidney condition. We spent the entire pregnancy preparing for her arrival but all the specialists also tried to prepare us for the possibility that she would not make.
My husband and I read a lot of blogs of other parents who went through the same experience - some with positive outcomes and some where the baby did not make it. We looked at those blogs where the parents were just heartbroken and posted so many photos of their dead baby - holding their dead baby, etc. My husband and I told each other that we didn't think we would ever do that - it seemed so creepy to hold and snuggle a dead baby and take a ton of photos.
Our daughter was born at 37 weeks but only lived 13 hours. The grief counselor told us so many parents don't want to hold the baby or take photos bc it feels so weird. But she encouraged us to do so bc if we did it and didn't connect with that experience that would be ok but if we didn't try it that we may regret it for the rest of our lives.
My husband and I held and kissed and cried over our dead daughter for hours and hours and hours and hours. We took so many photos. We looked at each other and said "we are those weird creepy people from the Internet with our dead baby but I don't care." That time was all we had with our daughter to say goodbye forever. It is possibly the most heartbreaking thing ever to say goodbye to someone - especially your child- and know you will never see their sweet face ever again.
When you lose someone you love -for some the only way to get through the grief is to remember them and share them with everyone - it's the only way I can keep her memory alive and that is how I grieved the loss of my baby. And it does feel shocking and foreign when you've never experienced it - and not everyone will experience grief like that - but until you go through it you never know how you will deal with it. I certainly didn't think I would be that person to share photos of my dead baby with everyone I know in person and online BUT when it did happen to me I became that person. Just some perspective from the other side

@sandy: this is heartbreaking. I am so, so terribly sorry for your loss. I certainly didn't mean to judge your grief, and absolutely don't think grief should be silenced. I'm not on FB, but was thinking about losing my own family members and was really surprised that this is now commonly done. but, reading your story, I get it. there are just no words to say how unfair this is. I'm glad you cherish the memories of the time you had with her.
