does anyone use one? i don't understand exactly what it does, but i have heard rave reviews from anyone who has seen or used one. i am so bored while waiting for baby to arrive and need a summer hobby! could i do "baby projects" with it?

I think you can now cut things out- think words and little figures-on fabric and wall vinyl. I use it for my classroom and cut out names and stuff for folders. I like it.

I heard people prefer the silhouette over the cricut.

I love my Cricut. I made a bunch of stuff for my son's birthday party. His birthday was a farm theme, and I made a mural with a barn and cute animals using the "critter" cartridge. Very easy and simple to use. You can also make cards and gift tags.

I have the silhouette and I love it. Much cheaper and simpler to get shapes to cut, and you can even do your own designs!

@e11IEbear-so do you buy the cricut and then cartridges separate to get it to do a theme, or could you kind of make whatever you want?

@lydg: you buy the cricut and cartridges separately. Normally, they'll sell the cricut in a package with a few cartridges, though. The cartridges go on sale quite often. I love mine. I'm a paper crafter and use it a lot. I can't wait to use it for M's projects!

I have the cricut (courtesy of the hubby after observing his cousin in law use it), and I think it's so much fun. It's fascinating to watch it cut things. I've made a couple banners with it. No experience with the Silhouette.

Thought it was hokey til I watched an infomercial on it... oh my gosh! That thing is amazing!! Try and find an infomercial on youtube or something. I don't have one because I'm on a DIY hiatus for a while... I do have a Xyron (turns anything into a sticker) and that thing is great too.

@LYDG - I got my machine on black friday for a good deal from Michaels, and it came with 3 cartridges. I buy other cartridges, which are on sale on Amazon or cricutmachine.com.

@lydg: It really is great. I used it some while we were doing stuff for our wedding. I know it will get a lot of use when we have kids.
