@Mrs. Blue: yes!! You should! The cruise line pays her commission so her clients don't have to pay anything for her services. Wall me!

@Shutterbug: I used to look down on cruises as well until I was gifted a very nice one! We ate mainly at the specialty restaurant and became good at picking out excursions that fit our style. There are still downsides, but I found it really relaxing. It's true what you say about experiencing a place--it's more accurate to say I sat on a beach at St. Kitts for 3 hours than to say I've been to and experienced the island life itself.

@Happygal: I'm praying we like our second one next month better. Next year we will pick a resort.

@dc yoga bee: oh no! What was not so good about your first one? The first one I went on was a bust. Outdated, smelly rooms, crowded everywhere. Bleh. Where will you be heading this time? Which ship? We're headed out next week on a Celebrity Caribbean cruise. I can't wait to feel the warm sun and think about nothing past where do I want to eat today?!

@Happygal: first cruise was carnival on our honeymoon. Seven days on an old boat with nasty food. The staff just started bringing me a brownie for dinner after day 3. I was bored out of my mind with the ship's entertainment, and the room was awful. We went to PR, St. Thomas, Bahamas, and Grand urk. We loved St. Thomas, and want to go back someday.
This time we are going on ncl Pearl (built 2010 I believe), and it's a 5 day so only Key West and Grand Cayman. I'm more excited about relaxing with no BlackBerry! Next week is so soon! I still have 34 days lol.

The only cruise I would go on would be a Alaskian one. Otherwise give me an all inclusive where my drinks are included

@LuLu Mom: We are debating Alaskian cruise,or resort next year. Plane tix to resorts seem to be $1000 plus a person, so we hadn't really looked into themas much. Everyone and their momma are going to Playa del Carmen it seems lol.

@dc yoga bee: my first cruise was Carnival, too! I have an awful memory of bobbing around the ocean with 50 other people trying to snorkel. We've learned to pick out excursions that don't appeal to cruisers--hikes, eco tours, etc.
@LuLu Mom: I would LOVE to go on an Alaskan cruise. I had friend who went and they had great pictures of being in a hot tub with a hat and glaciers behind them. It seems like a good way to see a lot of the area. Oh, and we signed up for a drink deal--there's some limit, but I'm a light weight who can't drink much to begin with!

Oh my goodness!
I want to do an Alaskan cruise at some point. I think that's the only way to see the glaciers since you have to be on a boat to get close.
