The other day I was very frustrated trying to get my son to take a nap so I finally just laid him in his crib swaddled with a binky and like magic, he just fell asleep with in 2 minutes. I tried it again for his next nap and the same thing happened!! We always rocked to sleep before this. That was 5 days ago. He has put himself to sleep for all naps and bed since then. He does fuss and cry a bit occasionally and after 2 minutes I'll go in and put his binky back in, but so far he's never cried more than 6 minutes. My question is, is the crying for a few minutes normal even in babies that have been nap and sleep trained? He doesn't get distraught or hysterical mostly just a whiny cry so I was wondering if this is kind of the new "normal" for him to fall asleep? My son is 3 months old, if that makes a difference.

I think so... some babies always just "fuss it out" even when they're sleep trained. We night/nap trained DS at 6 months and he still cries occasionally.

Wagon Jr. definitely fussed it out many nights! Sometimes I wondered if some babies just needed to cry before falling asleep to get all their energy out.

Yup, even at 2.5 my daughter might cry/whine for minute or two. It's fine.

My LO is eight weeks old and for the most part can settle herself off to sleep but some days she does do a whiny cry as she's dropping off. I usually just leave her to it unless she starts winding up.

it hasn't been that long so he might stop fussing. olive and charlie didn't fuss usually after sleep training, but some babies need to fuss a little before sleep. i think it's perfectly ok!

Yup, my LO is 6 months and he still fusses for 1-2 minutes before falling asleep for every nap and night-time. I've tried reading a book and just holding him for a few and rubbing his back gently before putting him down but nothing really relaxes him enough. I've come to realize it's just how he is and he needs a minute or two to get out some extra energy!

My LO used to fuss for a few minutes before going to sleep. Now she talks to herself and plays with her lovey in the crib before dropping off. It's like a switch. One second she will be talking and "mid-sentence" she's just asleep.
