That all sounds really good. If you have a tray, I might try to take along some smaller items that she can play and pretend with. We have a Polly Pocket tree house that small animal toys and dolls can fit in and around, and that's a favorite in the car because it's small enough to fit on a lap tray but they can still do some pretty good pretending with it. Play-doh or modeling wax? It depends on what sort of mess you anticipate, but those are car favorites and neither of the girls is a road-trip champion, unless they can earn their badge with hysterics and/or tons of complaining, so I would gladly take some mess in exchange for happier travellers. Lorelei really likes stickers, and markers. We have a whole collection of washable markers and paper. We also always have books. Lorelei likes to look at pictures sometimes, and Ellie can read to herself.

6 months old is harder. We had a whole collection of "car toys" for Lorelei at that age, but she tended to have a really short tolerance for being in the car. Hopefully it will go smoothly and she'll be able to nap or sleep for a decent chunk. That's really my only advice; is to try to take advantage of sleep time for travel.
