When you encounter bad customer service...do you do anything about it? Sometimes I write an email but I have to be pretty upset!

I'll write an email. Once the guy at publix was so rude to me. I wanted a philly cheese steak and he tried to talk me into ordering something easier to make, then complained the whole time he was making it. He made me feel guilty, but it's on the menu and he's getting paid to make it! I wrote an email and got a $5 coupon. Should have used it to have him make me another sandwich.

I write emails. If it's really bad, I'll talk to a manager and hen contact corporate later. I work in support and give to the best of my ability so if someone doesn't do the same for me, I get angry. I wrote to Panera Bread the other day and got a $25 gc and a phone call in response.

I'll ask to speak to a manager. I've had pretty good luck with customer service though.
It's actually better to write a hand written letter to corporate if you have a bad experience. I've written letters to Starbucks corp and Macy's. Both responded back and sent giftcards!

I'll talk to the manager but have never written letters/emails. I also heard if you Tweet your displeasure, you can get free stuff, too.

I've written emails to corporate, and in the case of really bad customer service on the phone, I've asked to speak to a manager. When I'm proactive, I feel better about it afterward (instead of staying silent and stewing for days!).

Sometimes I write to their corporate office, I cannot stand rude customer service. Especially if I'm already upset about the service.

I bought a cloth diaper safe cream(stick) that turned my LO's skin bright red (only where the stick was applied) and the marks oozed for a couple of days. I finally got around to calling their customer service line and their reaction was pretty much...we can't do anything because you opened the product/our product gets great reviews. They never even asked me to provide any type of batch number on the product or apologized. They just got defensive about how great their product is.
I emailed their customer service..hopefully they will respond.

@autumnlove: They'll probably respond with offering to send you another one if you send the old one back. That's happened to me when I was upset with a product. But 1) I didn't want another one, because obviously I didn't like the product to begin with and 2) That's a lot of hassle to send my thing back just to get something I hate.

If they were blatantly disrespectful to me, I'll send an email or call.
I do try to write a comment card, if I was happy with my experience. My DH used to work in the service industry and they got way more complaints than compliments. If it was bad service, I try to give some people benefit of the doubt that they were just having a bad day or other issues.

I have also found FB to be helpful if you are a fan of something and post on their wall it gets rectified really quickly. For instance, I ordered something from pottery barn and the following day they started offering free shipping. I wrote a polite blurb on their wall and was refunded the shipping costs I had paid. Rubbermaid also sent me $50 in gift certificates when I posted that I had bought a mop and the handle separated from the mop head.
