what a great article! My husband is absolutely amazing with our daughter and this totally made me think of him - our toddler cried so much this morning when she realized he was back to work (he had last week off).
Thanks for sharing!

That photo is awesome. I can't believe the comments he received! I'm going to follow his blog now.
I used to hate when my dad did my hair. He was rough! He said his mom would pop him with the brush when he squirmed while she brushed his hair. I guess I had it easy.

Oh I love this article! So much! It hurts my DH's feelings when he gets comments from his family about babywearing, and he's always complaining to me about the 'dad as dumb, useless father' commercials you see on TV. I hate that this blogger has to deal with such negative comments

@Leialou: mine was the opposite, I loved when my dad did my hair because he was extra gentle! He had long hair for a while, so he was familiar with how uncomfortable getting knots out can be. My mom was much rougher.
Loved this! Thank you for sharing! I'm gonna send it to mr. bird. He is also a black man married to a non black woman & he's made many comments about how he looks forward to having daughters so he can do their hair (he would need some lessons first I'm sure, but his eagerness is adorable!). I, too, wish we lived in a world where it wasn't a big deal when people married outside their race & involved daddies were the norm.

He's right fatherhood is cool. I LIVE for FB updates from a friend of mine who shares about his #daddyish adventures with his three LOs.
I'm not surprised by the comments he received. It's sad I'm not surprised.
Thanks for sharing the article. I'm going to start readingbhis blog now. My dad never did my hair correctly. He'd slap so much grease all over my hair my strands suffocated in their braids. Lol

very interesting--thanks for sharing. some of the negative comments he received made my mouth drop open, though.

Wow, I can't believe the comments he got! Good for him for addressing it so publicly!

I really, truly don't understand why this an issue.... It's a dad doing his daughters hair. Why is this a controversy?!

The comments that he received are effing insane. People like that make me so sad.
@loveisstrange: basically it turned into a race issue--in large part because his kids are biracial--no idea why that is at all relevant to the photo, but some people just can't help themselves in making racist comments I guess.

@hilsy85: yeah, I got that. I was just expressing my absolute frustration that something this simple an innocent is a race issue. Fucking ridiculous.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@hilsy85: @loveisstrange: oh, and the comments about him being a drug dealing thug and a deadbeat dad were just racist.
squash / 13764 posts
@loveisstrange: oh gotcha lol, I thought you maybe just saw the pic and didn't read the commentary underneath
Sorry!

Great post! I have learned to be careful about what I post about, as I've gotten some similar comments in the past.

Great article. I like his blog in general the few times I've perused. Very sad that a lot of the negative comments are racist, but the negative comments that questioned his reasons for blogging at all (the comments about posting pictures to "get rich", or for him "being fake" etc) are par for the course for parent bloggers.
There's not a major parent blogger out there that doesn't deal with a TON of hatred on those dumb snark sites, so it's not just because he's a dad. They all get it. (sadly). Of course, it's generally couched in a fake concern "for the children", but it's really just an excuse to be anonymously nasty, spurred on by a lot of herd mentality, who-can-be-most-negative internet circle jerks.
I'm glad he's ignoring the negativity and continuing to model involved daddyhood.

@hilsy85: the race issue comes up more than I ever knew before lo was born. When I'm out alone with lo I get negative comments and I never expected it.

@loveisstrange: probably the same reason the Cheerios commercial was a problem. It's a head scratcher for me, too. I LOVE seeing Dads A. wearing their babies and B. doing little girls hair!!!

I loved this pic (and his attitude). Hopefully one day it will be NBD and more men will see being a dad as a cool, expected, no-pat-on-the-back deal. Props to him.
And it made me so excited for LO to get here, as DH has been asking my sister to teach him to french braid so he can do our LO's hair later. *melt*

@hilsy85: oh don't be sorry, we've just accepted it as part of life because we can't change people or how they feel. It was eye opening though.

@Mrs. Polish: @hilsy85: we get looks (more DH) and comments all the time, because A obviously looks like an asian baby. and we live in a pretty diverse area too.... it's not as bad around here, but most DEF up north where ILs grew up...
it's sad that people are so closed-minded.

love this article, his attitude, and wants for the future.
the naysay'er comments are absolutely ridiculously, ignorant ppl.

Love this!
Amen to this statement "It’s just that the dumbest ones are usually the loudest ones."....so sad but so true!

I loved the picture. I have a few dad friends on my FB who post pics of them doing their daughter's hair and it's always so cute. I am going to start following his blog, too. Him doing his daughter's hair should be no big deal and it sucks that he got so many negative comments.
The picture actually made me feel a little sad that I didn't get to experience this with my dad, but excited for LO. It is one of the sweetest things to watch my husband do our daughter's hair. He does a pretty great job.
