I don't think we'll do them... I find them kinda creepy for some reason.

My dad coached my softball and soccer little league games on the weekends. Sometimes we would go to ice cream after the game. That's about as far as we went for "dates." For us it was about spending quality time together when he wasn't working.

DH has 1:1 time with DD on the weekends while I take care of household stuff. They do a variety of things together. It might be something simple, like running errands. Or they may do a museum, go out to eat, etc. I think it's great. I don't know why it is creepy either.

My LO is such a daddy's girl, they'll def go on daddy daughter dates. They already do things together without me, DH will take her places to give me time to relax. They go to the park or for walks on the pier.

What I remember most about daddy daughter dates when I was little is lunch in elementary school. My dad would bring mc donalds and take me out of the cafeteria, we'd eat it outside of school and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. One of my friend's mom's worked for him and sometimes she'd come and take her daughter out too.

Every summer (until she's older) is going to be daddy & daughter summer since DH is a teacher. Right now they go for lots of walks, to the park, she's been to a couple of restaurants w/DH and his friends. When he's back at work I don't think we'll do any special daddy & LO time because we're both going to be fighting over her

But I do think it's super important for her to have some alone time with her dad. I didn't have my dad around until I was an adult and that had a major influence on my dating life.

@ladyfingers: I do think it's the terminology that people might object to. (I can't really imagine objecting to the idea of a father taking his child- of either sex- on an outing, just the two of them... I actually think it's kind of weird if this doesn't ever happen!)

@ladyfingers: this exactly! The fact that there aren't "daddy-son"" dates, etc. is the thing that makes me uncomfortable.

If it's just about spending one-on-one time with your kid, then that's all gravy. I think it's when little girls dress up especially for these "dates" with their fathers is when I think it's creepy. Like, Cick-Fil-A has these date night events, and I think those are weird.

I also think it's like when a father is watching his child/ren and calls it "babysitting." When I spend one-on-one time with my child, I call it "parenting," not a date.

@HabesBabe: In my experience, it's a lot more common for women to refer to a man as "babysitting" than it is for a man to say that about himself?

@mrbee: it's been 50/50 in my experience! I hope hubs never says it!

DD and DH do all our grocery shopping, so they get a little quality time in each week. They've also done outings together (to the library, to the park, etc...) on occasion. I hope, as our kids get older, we can make it a more frequent thing to spend one-on-one time with each of our kids!

@HabesBabe: There's a "daddy daughter prom" event up here where the men and their daughters get all dressed up and go dance the night away. I think it's cute, and if DH wanted to take DD to that dance, I'd be totally supportive!

I am the only girl with 3 brothers and I loved when I would get to go out with my dad, just the two of us. We never really did anything crazy, maybe just dinner or something, but I loved spending time with him. My dad spent time with the boys while coaching their sports teams so this was how he spent time with me. I think it's important for a parent to spend some alone time with each of their children.

My dad and I still have "dates" every once in awhile. Usually it's during Christmas season where we'll meet to go shopping for my mom's gifts and then dinner. I'm kind of worried that we'll have to skip this tradition this year since I"m due in November and who knows if I'll be able to sneak out.

@Running Elley: giving us a standard to expect from guys once we started dating. I just teared up a little reading that! that is so sweet.

We never called them dates, but dad would take me fishing with him and hunting, and he would teach me softball skills (poor guy didn't have much to work with) and when I was older we would go camping with his friend and his kid. I love these memories, dad didn't care he had 3 daughters, he taught us everything he would have taught a son (and I still am a better shot than most guys haha)
