@Littlebit: Yes, sorry! I mentioned in an earlier post that my husband and I both spoke to the director about the issue, and it turned out that the employee had done this before with other families. So the decision was made by the center to let her go. The director was very upset on our behalf, though I tried to assure her that our only real concern was our daughter's safety in case god forbid the staff member got desperate due to her financial troubles. I appreciate the way everything was handled, and I'm sad it resulted in someone losing their job but I think it was the right call to make since this was a repeat action.
