If you were going for a long weekend without your children, which would you prefer to visit (assuming cost was not a factor)? Trying to decide for myself and DH.

DC, only because we just got back from NYC and I've been there before! I've never been to DC!

I feel like DC is more fun to do with kids-
I pick NYC for just you and DH!

I would vote DC for me just because we live in the suburbs and both work in NYC already. But if you have no ties to either city, definitely NYC!

I just got back from DC and love it there! It's so clean and there's so much to do with no kids. NYC has a ton to do, but I'm not a fan of how crowded it is at all times.

NYC! I even have family in the DC area, but if it was just me and the hubs, I would choose NYC. The food, the entertainment, the sightseeing, just the overall experience-- NYC wins.

Oops. I voted for NYC, but now thinking about it some more, I think my vote is for DC instead. I've lived in both, and I just can't stand the crowdedness and the no-reservations aspect of NYC restaurants. DC is a lot more manageable, the Metro stations have AC and it's clean. The DC dining scene is crazy awesome these days, but there aren't so many restaurants that it's dizzying trying to figure out where to go. Eater DC's lists should be all you need.

DC seems easier all around, from finding lodging to transportation (but that comes from someone who is definitely is NOT a city mouse). I would want to feel relaxed, so my pick would be DC! Georgetown is fun to walk around. Just thinking about it makes me want to hop on the train for a visit!

I haven't been to DC. NYC is my vote, but with kids maybe not, because I loathe crowds lines and limited bathrooms by myself let alone with LOs.

Neither b/c I already live in NY, and been to DC!
But for you I'd pick NYC for sure

DC with kids, NYC without.
ETA: reasoning-- DC is great during the day with all the free activities and museums etc. but NYC is awesome with the nightlife, amazing restaurants, tons of cool neighborhoods, theaters etc.

We went when I was 13 weeks to NYC for 10 days- it was awesome. For sure a once in a lifetime trip.

I picked NYC because I think of DC as the better choice to go with family.. That being said my DH does not like NYC ( I love it though).

100 percent NYC. There is just so much to do and see and the restaurants are incomparable.

If I didn't live here, I'd pick NYC for a couples trip. DC is fun too but NYC all the way

I have lived in both cities -- without kids, I'd go NYC for a lot of the reasons others have stated. Lots of fun nightlife, restaurants, bars, shows, etc. DC is a lot of fun, too, but I think it would be a great trip to do with kids!
