Since the overall argument of the article is that a mother who cannot and does not take care of her child 'properly' due to being ill essentially causes a stunt in their growth, I'd say it makes sense. Just like if a mother had broken both her legs and/or was in the hospital a lot due to other issues. Depression's a more common issue, though, so I can see why the article focuses on that correlation. And we all know it can be very debilitating. Children who are not well taken care of do not flourish, period.

I do get what the article is saying, and logically it makes some sense. It would be nice if it had been framed a little more positively for moms/moms to be though. Like, saying something about how important it is to talk to your doctor about whether or not what you're experiencing is PPD because there can be long term physical consequences to your children if you let your PPD go untreated (ie, it affects the entire family, not just the mom). I think too, the end is a little flip, just saying basically that a parent's "mood" is to blame - moods are something you cam control, PPD isn't. KWIM?

I also read it and thought "great, I not only have PPD, but now I'm responsible if my LO is short?!? thanks for the help "researchers"?"
I would think they should have been a bit more responsible and continued to study "why" than saying "we found a link but don't know why they're linked."
