I guess I had this fantasy in my head that my DH would be totally into feeling the baby kicking and talking to my belly, etc. He's just not very interested at all. Don't get me wrong, he's been amazing this whole pregnancy. Cooking me dinner, washing the dishes, doing everything on my never ending to do list for him. He's just not into feeling the baby. I guess it won't really become real for him until the baby is here.

Hubs was really hesitant in the beginning - I think it freaked him out a little but. But as I got further along and the kicks were getting stronger and visible, hubs began to think it was so cool. I hope he comes around soon!

My husband is similar!!! He’ll never just put his hand on my belly to try to feel the baby kick. If the little guy is super active I’ll grab his hand and have him feel or have him look and see my belly moving around and he thinks that’s super cool and exciting but he never actively seeks it out. And he’s very invested in this pregnancy and has been a fantastic husband through the whole thing! He loves the baby…he just doesn’t get super into the kicks. He doesn’t talk to my belly either.

He was not interested in the flutters and soft kicks between week 20-30. He was interested once she started kicking hard!

My husband was obsessed with feeling her kick for months because I could feel movement but he couldn't. As soon as he felt some good kicks about two weeks ago though, he lost all interest and moved on to the nursery- he has pregnancy ADD lol.

DH is interested and got upset when my sister felt a kick before he does. He puts his hands on my belly all the time even though it's still too early to feel regular strong kicks.

Same as PPs, my husband wasn't super interested until the end of second trimester. He would get easily discouraged because I could feel things that he couldn't.

@Rubies: The kicks have got pretty strong, but he does say they don't feel like much. I guess I feel it more b/c he's inside me.
@Running Elley: Yeah that's how my DH is. He never actively seeks out wanting to feel the baby. I know he is excited about the baby, but he doesn't really care to feel the kicks. He's more interested in the colostrum leaking from my boobs! lol

DH loved singing and talking and feeling my LO's kicks.
This time around he's not as interested.. rather, he's distracted by our LO. He has felt the baby move though a few times and has sung a couple of songs and talked to our baby2.

Often the baby will stop kicking when hubs puts his hand on my belly (I think it's because his hands are always SO warm so baby snuggles in and stops moving). So he has definitely stopped trying as much because he's rarely successful. But if I can get baby to kick for him he still gets really excited by it.

@mrskc: same here...I was talking about how my ribs hurt and he goes, "couple more weeks!" and I said, "then I'll have to give up my boobs!" and he goes, "for me or the baby?" he totally thinks I'm gonna let him try to BF. ummm no!! Crazy town!

@mrskc: My DH was (and at times still is) like this. He was freaked out by the kicks in the beginning, but now he likes to watch her kick through and see it move, not so much feel the actual movement.
He also doesn't talk to my belly, he thinks it is strange and says she can hear his voice even if he's not up close! haha I guess that is partially true.

@jessiejo17: sometimes my DH will find it interesting if he sees my belly move. He'll look at it for a second and then continue on with what he was doing.

With both my pregnancies DH was mildly interested but both babies stop moving as soon as anyone but me touches my belly. They actually move away from the OB whenever he puts the doppler on to get a heartbeat.

Dh was always excited to try and feel the kicks but he also commented that he didnt feel it very much until later in the pregnancy when you could actually see the kicks

DH isn't super interested either. After he felt LO kick for the first time he lost all interest. He has been amazing in all other aspects of my pregnancy and he really enjoyed our anatomy scan. He will occasionally put his hand on my belly and rub but he never has talked to my belly and doesn't try to feel LO kick anymore unless I put his hand on my stomach.

DH was more interested with my belly the first time, this time he was able ro feel her kick at 15 weeks so I guess he got bored fast.

Once I got really big and he could actually feel them he was way more into it. No worries, once that little kicker comes out your DH will be VERYYYYYYYYY interested in everything about your LO including stuff like poop =)

DH thinks talking to pregnant bellies is goofy. To be honest, so do I (my grandmother once asked if we were talking to the baby in utero, and I told her it's not like we were making an effort to be quiet while he was around)
He also wasn't nearly as into feeling kicks as I'd expected, or as I'd wanted him to be. I was a crazy preggo so I got mad at him about it. I was totally fascinated feeling kicks and watching my belly move, and I couldn't understand why he didn't also want to just sit around watching my belly shift and move.
It doesn't mean anything about how excited a guy is about actually being a dad, though- DH probably spends more time with LO than I do, and loves being a dad. He's just way more excited about babies once they are external.

He was interested and very excited.... but in his own time. I would want him to feel when LO was going crazy kicking, but he was busy doing something then so he wouldn't care so much. He didn't get that LO had a mind of her own and only wanted to do it when SHE wanted to do it.

SO seemed to get disheartened because I could feel it and he couldnt. This week, I forced him to try again, and he got excited because he could actually feel it.

@Lozza: You know, I don't even talk to the baby in utero, so I don't even know why I thought DH would. lol I'm like you though. I'm fascinated by feeling kicks and watching my belly move. I guess I thought my DH would feel the same. I know he will be excited about the baby once he's out.

@mrskc: I was an emotional wreck, so I totally got on DH's case about it, and he kind of tried to explain that for him, one kick was much like another, and that once he'd felt it a few times already, it wasn't so different. It was very cool to feel it at all, but he didn't have my "every kick is as fascinating as the first one!" obsession.
Totally reasonable, but I probably still told him he was a jerk and sent him out for donuts.

My husband is all for feeling the baby, but his Dad will not even get close to my belly, my mother in law told me that he never touched her belly, that he would get freaked out and be scared that he would hurt them or something (She had 3) I've met guys on both ends, so dont feel bad about it!! He's probably like my father in law and he's just a little scared =]

DH was never into feeling DS kick. I didn't hold it against him. Well, actually, sometimes I did, I'd walk up to him when he was sitting down and put my belly on his back so DS could kick him, haha
But I didn't let it bother me that he wasn't interested in seeing/feeling him kick.
He's been a WAHD since DS was 7 weeks old and everything is all about DS. They're two peas in a pod.
