I think he mostly just wants people over the first few weeks to show it off, but keeps telling friends "we are having a housewarming party"

Would you just invite people over as they can come, or have a day planned for people to stop over and we provide a few appetizers and some drinks? Maybe just do e-vites or word of mouth? I really don't want anything big or fancy but I want to compromise with DH since he is looking forward to having a "party".

Thoughts? Tips or advice?
