Last year! Lo was 2 months old (and a week) and it was hard. We didn't drive as far as you but spent most of the time soothing lo in a bathroom. Then the person who hosted that year said that things like the crying baby made it feel like a "real Thanksgiving" that year. I was like, wow, glad you guys had fun.. It's part of why I would prefer a Jan-Mar baby next time around!!

Poor baby, she must have been overwhelmed!

Yup. She took one hour long nap all day today, despite many tried, and held it together pretty well but pretty much melted down by the time we finished dinner. Dh and I just had an argument about nothing really, just me feeling totally spent from taking care if her 24/7 even when he's around, and now I'm sittig in the dark letting her comfort nurse for half an hour to hopefully get her to bedtime without an epic melt down. And there are just four of us here in a nice quiet house.

But the times she was happy were very very lovely. She wore her cute little dress then had an outfit change to her little first thanksgiving onesie.

This makes me really worried for Christmas when we are spending a week with the inlaws and Dh is going to want to golf almost every day. He even left for over an hour today to putt in 34 degrees. While I nursed and put the baby down.

awwwww dinner was a little stressful for us too.
we waited 25 mins for our table (omg kill me), the kids were starving, DD was acting up a little, DS was fine as long as he had food in front of him, but he didn't take his 2nd nap so he was overtired by the end of our meal.
We got home about 20 mins ago and both kids are out! Phew.

Awww!!

M has a cold so she's fussier than normal. She only wanted to eat sweet potatoes and rolls and was done after 3 minutes. So one of us had to chase her around when we should have been enjoying dinner. Ugh.

Good news - she's asleep and we're watching TV.

C was super fussy today! He didn't have good naps, which was the main problem. He made it through dinner pretty well, but freaked the heck out when we were about finished. He slept on the way home, and has been a grump since we got here!

LO is busy busy busy and I'm used to our 100% babyproofed house. Watching him at Grandma's where there are figurines, unanchored furniture, chemicals in easy to access drawers, and unguarded stairs is stressful. He slept like crap in the pack n play, only took 1 1 hour nap, and wouldn't let anyone hold him but me the entire afternoon. Ugh. Exhausted. Fortunately, he passed out at 6PM for the night.

Yeah, she couldn't really nap because none of my family knows how to be around a baby, so I spent a lot of time going into a (colder, less heated) part of the house to nurse her down from her cryfests.

I am more majorly irritated with my mom's boyfriend, though. He actually had the gall to argue with me that babies cry sometimes just because they feel like it. Trying to explain that no, it was just her only way of communicating, went over his head.

This came after arguing a hundred other points, so really, I'm just fed up with him in general and nothing he can do would be right in my eyes at the moment. Grr.

Yep, this sucked. LO only took one nap this morning, and it was so noisy that she was only able to take one 20 min nap all afternoon. She fussed a lot more than normal, no one offered to help with her, and I had to eat cold food because I was giving her a bottle while everyone ate. Plus we are just now leaving at 7 because dinner started 2 hrs late.

Not the Thanksgiving I expected, but oh well. I have a ton of desserts in the trunk and beer waiting in my fridge.

LO did well overall but we didn't even try napping because it is futile on days like this. We are at my ILs and there were over 50 people here and the house echoes.

But I was irritated with other people's LOs! There were a lot if parents who were not supervising small children and I ended up managing a lot of kids plus my LO since I was actually keeping track if her outside...and now I am tired...and DH went and took a nap for an hour after our meal!

Yes! My dad's house is the furthest thing from being baby proofed so it's constant chasing after the 19 month old and making sure he doesn't break any if their gazillion knickknacks! And the 4 month old didn't want to sleep, so she just screamed. I had to hold her while eating and also help feed DS. Yay...

Haha. my husband and I are laying in bed completely.exhausted and I came across this post and laughed out loud! LO is cutting at least two molars and was up for 2 hours last night, only had 2 30 minute naps today and was a total fuss ball at dinner tonight. If anyone even got within 2 feet of her, she cried and whined. She is also going through a screeching phase which can silence a whole room, but I have no idea how to discourage her from doing it. She had a meltdown right before bedtime too. Yay!

I was getting worried, especially with the timing of our get together and the crummy sleep she got today, but she did awesome! I think we were lucky and it hit on a good week, because I swear a week or two ago she would not have soaked in all the people and love she got like she did today.

Yes, barely took his 1 nap today and was fussy all day. Ended up putting him down for bed 30 min early.

My baby has stranger anxiety around my MIL...kinda frustrating!

Since LO became mobile it's been stressful spending time in non-baby-friendly homes. We went to a friend's Thanksgiving in their apartment and there was nowhere LO could crawl that wasn't within arm's reach of wine glasses, plates with food on them, power strips and cords, and cat paraphernalia. And he wasn't in a great mood because he wasn't able to explore without our taking things away from him or diverting him.

We don't do thanksgiving, but this post makes me think Christmas time is going to be pretty stressful! S gets super fussy/overtired whenever we take her to anyone elses house-- or basically anywhere other than at home where there is so much going on/interesting stuff she'd rather be doing than napping. Last time I had to put S in the carseat under the table cloth and keep rocking it until she fell asleep!
