@swedishfish: you want the cvs in the available window. I say go for it. It was easy and it is definitive. I wasn't as concerned about the low risks of it when I did it because I felt the benefit far outweighed that risk. Make sure they send the FISH and the chromosomes because you'll get the FISH results really fast and then the chromosomes will confirm but take longer
I think you are making a wise decision and I wish you the best of luck for normal chromosomes.

I had a normal NT but had some worrisome results later on during the anatomy scan. Everything turned out 100% fine upon further testing. I've heard a lot of stories that have turned out this way, and I hope yours does too!

@swedishfish: I am so sorry that you are having to worry about this. It's probably not much comfort, but remember that the risk algorithms are really set up to create more false positives than false negatives... they screen that way to be able to avoid everyone having more costly or invasive tests, but they know there are going to be high number of false positives. They'd rather that than increase the risk of problems falling through the cracks. My understanding is that a good number of abnormal NT results turn out to be just fine. I so so home that will be the case for you. Sending lots and lots of prayers your way.

@swedishfish: If I'm remembering correctly, my doc told me the test had over 98 or 99% accuracy... I'm comfortable with those odds.

@swedishfish: I know insurance is a tricky topic, but I would *HOPE* that your insurance company will take care of it after the fact if you go ahead and do it, especially when you have medical reasons for your doctor requesting it. Ugh, insurance should be the last thing on your mind right now:-(. FWIW, I only had to pay $400-$500 out of pocket. When we had something come up on the anatomy scan, having already done that test saved us a lot of worry and scrambling. It's some of the best money I've ever spent, and I would say that even if I'd had to pay the (gulp) full $2700 out of pocket. SO hoping everyone gets their act together in a timely manner for you. I'll be checking to see what you hear tomorrow. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about MaterniT21, or about the results sheet they send you, which talks about percentages of accuracy for Trisomies 21, 18, and 13 if you want to take a look.

Don't know much about this but praying it is like the many other stories I have heard where the baby end up completely healthy! Hoping you get some answers and a good plan tomorrow.

I'm sorry, I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts

@swedishfish: Praying for a healthy little bean and that this all is worry over nothing.
Looking at risk assessment tables, there is an exceptionally high chance that your little baby is totally fine. The nasal bone is another thing they look at in risk assessment. Praying for you, friend

Update: the genetic counselor didn't really tell us much that we hadn't already researched. The nasal bone was visualized so the risk of Down syndrome goes down slightly. We decided to do the MaterniT21 test now and go ahead with an amnio in a few weeks. I'm going to ask my OB for a blood work prescription to check for an infection. I already had the blood drawn for the MaterniT21 test. We decided to go with the amnio over the CVS because the amnio can test for spina bifida which can go hand in hand with a heart defect.
I feel like I can't even announce this pregnancy. I'm pretty numb right now.

@swedishfish: So sorry you are going through this. Do you know when the MaterniT21 results should be back?
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@PawPrints: the genetic counselor said usually 7-10 days but it could take up to 2 weeks.

@swedishfish: I'm so sorry. The waiting must be so difficult. But at least you have a plan of action and hopefully you'll get some comforting answers sooner rather than later.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this.
I will cross every finger toe and eye that all is okay. It is a really
Overwhelming and emotional process to go through.
grapefruit / 4649 posts
My fingers are crossed for you. I had the Maternit21 test and it took the full two weeks for results. I hope yours comes back faster but I thought I would let you know that the longer turn around time isn't uncommon.

@swedishfish: I'm so sorry you're going through this, and that you have to wait that long for some answers. I am hoping and crossing my fingers for everything to be OK.

@swedishfish: Where do you live? I happen to live a few miles from where MaterniT21 was sent (processed in La Jolla, CA), so results were back within a few days. However, I know of other bees who had it take longer just because of distance. Hoping they put a rush on yours.

I don't know the exact number, but at my NT scan the neck thickness was "borderline" according to the doctor. I had already had MaterniT21 testing so they were able to rule out any problems. They made it sound like it was a good thing that we'd already had the testing because it would have been concerning. DS turned out totally fine.
I hope you guys get good answers.

I hate that you have to wait so long for answers. Thinking of you
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@swedishfish: Thinking good thoughts for you... That's good they were able to see the nasal bone. I'm sure the wait is excruciating... I remember how hard it was for me just waiting for my betas. Maybe you could plan some distracting activities, like the movies or something? Do you have a sitter? Hang in there, mama.
