I want a mickey and/or minnie mouse theme for our nursery, but I'm wondering if its going to get really expensive. I like getting a good deal on things I buy so I might change my mind and forget the disney theme.

I think you could do a lot of red/white/black, and things that work with the theme without actually having Mickey or Minnie on them. All cutesy baby stuff is gonna be overpriced.

I don't think any theme cold be too expensive.
..there's ways to be thrifty!! You don't have to do trademarked disney stuff.
You could do red and white polka dot sheets, cute black and white art work, pops of yellow (a yellow dresser perhaps?) And maybe some licesned disney stuff here and there. vintage mickey posters would be cute!

I agree with the others, super easy to throw in red, black and yellow colors and then get a few signature Mickey pictures for your walls to tie it together. It is so easy to be thrifty now a days with tons of ideas and printable art on Pinterest.

No, but I changed my theme because noone could picture it and my mom thought it wasn't baby enough (which was the point). I have regretted it deeply so if it's what you really want, please please go for it!

Nope, I just found ways to DIY a lot of things, and went as inexpensive as I could on the big stuff (dresser from craigslist, crib from target, glider is a hand me down with a slip cover). I think you can do a lot with color and probably use free or inexpensive printables or a few accessories to tie it all together.

@Torchwood: @Rainbow Sprinkles: Cool. Thanks. Good ideas.
@Mrs.Pinecone316: I already have the disney wall art.
@ladybee: Thanks. I think I'll need to think of other ways to make it work.
@Mrs. Lion: Good idea on the free or inexpensive printables. I do have a die cut printer that I can make decals for the wall and maybe some cute pillows out of it. I can cut and print the items, I'll just need to find some to sew it for me.

I am not crafty but I found some things on Etsy that maybe you could make. Also, I'd splurge on the decal or something that can be a focal point.

@ladybee: OMG!
So freaking cute!! Definitely something I could buy fabric and try to me or ask family to sew! Thank you!

@bluestriped bee: if it's what you want go for it. Any nursery theme is going to add up if you let it.
Ok two more...

@Rainbow Sprinkles: love these ideas!!! Also by incorporating a modern/loose interpretation I think it will age better for an older child which will make it more cost effective in the long run.
I opted to skip doing a babyish nursury and just decorated the way I like it, with pieces that can be used anywhere in the house later. Once baby has some preferences I'm happy to make some changes for now I want to be happy in the space. That said, please do what makes you happy and will make your heart light up, I love walking into a space that feels perfect. Lots of great ideas here.

I'm like Youboots. I made the nursery decor what I wanted. I figured that in a couple years they will develop their own likes and I'd cater to that.
As for the Mickey Theme... I would focus mostly on the colors. You will get dolls and accessories from people that you can use on the shelves, etc. For example, I went with Aqua, Gray and white. Did not tell anyone anything other than the colors. As shower gifts we got blankets with airplanes in those colors. An airplane mobile in the colors, gray and aqua elephants. So now the room looks like airplanes and elephants were the theme.

Sort of! Way way back, I imagined I might like to do a woodland theme, but pretty much abandoned that when all the inspiration photos I found were way too modern-looking for my taste, and also the theme kits were all really expensive. So I went at it similar to @turkeylurkey and @youboots and just chose things that I like and created a room that I enjoy spending time in. Then this week, DH pointed out that I had accidentally ended up creating essentially a more creative take on a woodland theme after all. Ha, oops. I guess I really like nature. Definitely saved some money that way versus if I had done the typical Pinterest-type woodland nursery stuff.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I wanted to do madras from pbkids with dog prints and accents. More of a toddler room. Ended up going pbkids Jackson. I like it but I love these prints I never got to use.

@ladybee: I'm familiar with Madras and with those pictures that would have been awesome!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I know right?! I'm already planning his toddler room. I've pushed dogs on him so it should be a shared love by then.
