I would say we are closer now but in the first year or so I would have said no. My mom loved her job and was always the working mom. I have decided to be a stay at home mom and initially this was something she didn't understand at all. I don't think she understands now either but she doesn't say as much about it anymore!

We were already fairly close to begin with, but now I think we're closer.

I've always been close to my mom, but we're even closer now, and I couldn't do motherhood without her help.

I understand her in ways I didn't before I was a mother myself, and in that way we are closer. But then there are things that aggravate me more now. My mom is so wonderful and loving but it's still a fraught relationship sometimes!

Yes. The biggest change happened when she lived with us on and off for 6 months to help take care of our second baby. Her eyes were opened to just how difficult life with two small kids is for two working parents, and now she never gets mad at me or criticizes me for anything. She understands when I don't call back or when I'm having trouble accommodating her for holiday plans, etc. She is always just looking to take pressure off of me.

Growing up we had a very tumultuous relationship... she was a very critical, overbearing mom and I was constantly trying to rebel.. and now I can honestly say we are friends, almost like peers, and I can tell her anything without hesitating.

I doubt it will but we'll see in September!

Yes and No, I now see her view of life as a mother but it has opened a new can of worms on how we parent different and such.....she is an opinion giver even when it is not asked for...but I respect her more as a mother and now understand

I think we're about the same as before. I would call us close, but not super close. My family is not super typical in that we are all fiercely independent. My mom is turning 70 this year and just retired, but she is super, super busy. She's not the typical mom waiting-by-the-phone to be called. And I'm not that way, either. So we can easily go 2-3 weeks without talking, but there are no hurt feelings on either side.

I do feel like I can go to her for issues/advice about child rearing or cooking, or random house-ownership stuff. She's remarkably nonjudgmental, generally speaking. But I have about a dozen friends that I would talk to about really deep, close-to-my-heart issues before I would discuss them with my mom. Kind of hard to explain. Like if I were having marriage issues, I would never in a trillion years talk to my mom about it--I would probably inform her the day I signed divorce papers or something. I guess we still have a lot of "private" areas--she doesn't ask or expect to know, and I don't want to tell her, haha.

This is hard to answer. My mom and I weren't very close before and I don't think we are any closer now. Although, she definitely visits more often. Before she'd go on vacation and drive right past my home and not stop. Now she stops both ways. I also think she's trying to be more open with her affection/compliments. I remember her being very judgy and critical. Now she says nice things about me and about me being a mom. It's weird b/c I almost think she's joking..... but she's not.... Usually they say that having kids makes you appreciate your mom more and ironically I actually think that me having a baby has made my mom appreciate me more. If that's possible???

My mom and I seem to be very different kinds of moms but it does make me understand her more. I think we're closer.
