We probably will not take our newborn out for a while. Our ped prefers that we keep baby out of public places until 6 weeks, particularly since he/she will be born during flu season. But you and your hubs should do whatever YOU are comfortable with. I just don't understand why people feel the need to share unsolicited opinions on how other people's parenting decisions. Boggles my mind. Just ignore them : )

Yep - We had to make a run to target for diapers when LO was just a week old. A lady said "A WEEK OLD AND YOU ALREADY HAVE HER OUT!?!"

I just said "well someone had to purchase diapers"

geeeeez.

Honestly? I sometimes see a baby and think "Oh my gosh, she looks two days old and they have her in Walmart at 11PM? I'd be scared to do that. Such a germy place."

But I would NEVER say anything. It's their decision.

I don't think doctors say to stay inside for 6 weeks for no reason. It's to protect the baby. I would totally go for a walk outside in nice weather, but a grocery store is something I'd personally hold off on. But that's me. I don't judge other people for their parenting choices, but that doesn't mean they don't occasionally surprise me.

We went on a trip to the market pretty early (I would say within 2 weeks?) and we went to dinner at Chili's at 3 weeks!

We were never the type to stay home, so the kids were out pretty much immediately. I've had both reactions: some people talling me how sweet/tiny/wonderful they are and some people saying how they would never take their babies out that early/how wrong it is/etc... Whatever. We got cabin fever after being in the house/hospital after only a few days!

We had the baby out pretty quickly for walks and errands. I live far from my family and my husband works long hours, so there really wasn't anyone else to do some of the things that needed doing. But, as we live in New York I feel like that's pretty common? No one ever said anything.

we were told to keep our baby in doors for alteast the first month esp with the whooping cough going around. My doctor wanted us to stay way from crowded places until 8 weeks when she got her first shot. I think people are bound to have strong feelings about it, I usually worry when I see a very newborn baby at the mall, but its not my place to say anything to them

We took LO all over the place. I was going stir crazy at home! And the only comment I got actually was when she was like 2 months old at Target and some old lady was like, "so little to take out!" I just said, well, we were out of diapers...

We only took L out for doctor's appointments until she was about a month old, but that's because Korean culture is pretty strict about taking out newborns and my mom would've flipped if I went anywhere

I find it so annoying when completely random strangers think it's welcomed/appropriate to tell you how to raise your child. Just the other day, some random lady in the elevator was like, "OMG that's what your baby is dressed in?! She must be freezing!" Umm... it was like 65 degrees, she was in a hooded fleece jacket, and she had on socks. What should she be in, a snowsuit? Geez.

Yup! We took DD out a bit. Mostly after two weeks (more so because I was too sore to leave the house before that). I was going stir crazy inside all the time!

We took him out at 11 days old, to church. And after that we felt more confident about taking him out.

We took LO out within the first week of her birth. It’s super easy to take newborns out since they usually just sleep haha. No one gave us a hard time or questioned us; but my husband has told me I have perfected the “bitch eye” so there’s that. A few women did say they thought it was “awesome” that we were getting out and about and enjoying ourselves so quickly.

Our ped just said to use common sense; but placed no restrictions on taking her out. I could not have stayed inside with LO for 6 weeks; I would have gone batty.

We have taken our little ones out with us right away. No one ever said anything to us. Our doctor didn't have any recomendations on it either, what ever we felt comfortable with.

I didn't for the first month based on our pediatrician's recommendation. If we needed to run an errand either my husband or I went alone and someone stayed at home. I'm a pretty paranoid FTM so I didn't really see the point of taking him out in public and exposing him to germs if I didn't have to (still feel like this at 6 1/2 months!). That being said- I would never say anything to someone else about it. It's a personal decision.

I asked our pediatrician about this - she said getting fresh air is great for you and baby. And to cover them up if you go to a store - no strangers touching. We've been out a few times, she's 12 days old today, and haven't had issues w/ comments or people touching. And I make sure to Purell before I pick her up.

We went out all the time pretty quickly. I was feeling great and I didn't see any reason not to get out. We were actually encouraged by the midwives (they don't use doctors for childbirth here) to get out and about ASAP. You're especially encouraged to go to mommy groups at the Children's Centre and not get isolated, which is awesome!

I took lo out before she was a week old and people always got so excited to see such a small baby so no one ever judged. I took her to church when she was a week old and everyone was so impressed that I was there since I just had a c-section.

We've been advised to stay in for a month, obviously not counting essential trips like doctor appointments. I have heard it's good for them to get used to the germs in your house before facing the ones outside. It's hard, though! And most people seem to take them out earlier with no I'll effects! I just don't trust people not to touch the baby.

No, and our ped. told us if he saw us in a heavily-populated, public area with her that early, he'd tell us to go home!

Our ped was adamant about not taking him out until he got his 8 week shots. So...it sucks, but we haven't been anywhere yet. One more week to go!! It sucks more too because I am alone 3-5 nights a week so I have to be vigilant about what we need! She said going on walks is perfectly fine, anything else to stay at home. I know some people think its insane to not go anywhere that long, but his health comes first and if he got sick/fever before six weeks it is automatic hospital admission.
