We told our parents and my best friend at 7 weeks along and asked them to keep it quiet because we didn't want to tell anyone until we were out of the first trimester. Then my FIL posted it on Facebook! My best friend called and alerted me the minute it went up, and DH called his dad and asked him to remove it ASAP, but a few people caught it.

I told my boss today at 7 weeks and she said she thought so but didn't want to ask.

@Tanjowen: my mom did something similar by accident. She posted something about being a grandma! I called her immediately and told her to take it down. We told parents at only 5 weeks, so we definitely weren't ready to tell anyone yet.

Also, we didn't post to Facebook until we were about 20 weeks, but I had a co-worker (that already knew) post an article to my wall about first time moms and all that jazz. I just called her quickly and asked not to say anything.

Both were somewhat nerve-racking as we weren't quite ready to tell the world yet!

People were polite enough not to ask me directly, but by 8 weeks it was visible. I had an acquaintance ask my friend at that point but when my friend said I was pregnant but it was early she dropped it. And that was in loose clothes and layers, it would have been obvious in a bathing suit by like, 6 weeks. I literally had to loosen a belt before I even got a bfp.

@Tanjowen: I specifically told my dad not to say anything on fb. I think he was a little insulted but I just didn't want to share!

We told our parents but asked them not to say anything. My mom immediately told all my aunts and uncles. When I called her on it she said "Oh, I thought you said I could tell people, I just couldn't put it on Facebook!"

@tlcbaby: I can't believe people pulled you aside and asked, though! That's so rude! When I was 5 months with this pregnancy a coworker said, awkwardly, "So, I haven't heard anything official but...I'm going to say...congratulations?" (I had told people I work with directly but this was a guy that I knew but didn't interact with much) I looked at him blankly and said "What do you mean?" and he basically turned immediately purple in the 3 seconds I made him suffer before laughing and saying that I was just kidding.

I totally called a friend out once but not in a public way - we had gone out for a fancy dinner that we'd been planning for months and when she didn't order wine I said "You are SO PREGNANT!" and she confessed that she was 6 weeks. I didn't feel bad because they were really close friends, she said she had been dying to tell me but her husband wanted to wait until at least 8 weeks, and I didn't tell anybody.

@lemondrop: Haha my daycare lady asked me 2 days before I tested. I "knew" but hadn't actually taken the test yet, her asking made me test...sure enough I was pregnant. She's pretty "famous" for calling the moms out before we know ourselves, she has a 6th sense about pregnancy...it's creepy

@lemondrop: I also got asked by a cousin I rarely see about 12 hrs after the positive test - I wasn't even 4 weeks yet! She said I looked like I was glowing and winked at me.

One of my MALE colleagues did and I flat out denied it. How rude!

We purposely DON'T want this to happen.

Unfortunately my in-laws are all big mouths. I wanted to tell my own mom, but it wouldn't be fair to tell my family and not his. So because of DH's side, we're waiting until Easter to tell family.

We might tell some close friends we trust to keep their mouths shut right before. But we're staggering the announcements pretty close and plan to "announce on Facebook" a week or so after telling the in-laws.

A few certainly ruin it for the rest.

I had a few people ask me before we were ready to tell the world (they noticed I was not drinking at events when I normally would enjoy a beer). I just lied to them and told them I was not pregnant but just didn't feel like drinking at the given time. They did jokingly give me a hard time about it once we did announce though!

My coworker (and close friend) totally called me out around 6 weeks, after I had been off sick (like actually sick, not morning sick) for a few days. I was a bit thrown off, but was actually happy to have someone k trusted to keep it hush hush at work and deflect attention for a few more weeks.

I'm just appalled that people think it's okay to ask someone if they're pregnant.
A couple weeks ago when I was about 13 weeks, my male coworker had the nerve to ask me. I couldnt believe it! Earlier that day he kept trying to force it out of me asking when's the last time I drank alcohol or how far apart would my DD and new baby be if I was pregnant now. I gave vague answers then he finally straight up asked me are you pregnant? I was like Excuse me?? I finally said yes but that I didn't want to talk about it because I was having some complications. Then he wanted to know what kind of complications I was having. Seriously?? Ugh I was so mad. Then he had the nerve to tell me that he could tell I was pregnant and if I was really trying to hide it I could have worn dresses instead of pants. Who on earth says that kind of stuff??

Yes. Unfortunately someone did with our first. When I was pregnant with him, I had bright red bleeding early on. We were going with a very natural homebirth midwife who did not do heart beat checks until 12 weeks, no early ultrasounds etc. so I was on pins and needles and when we told the in-laws at Thanksgiving before our first appointment we told them not to tell anyone and they promised they wouldn't. Except that they did. They announced it at a dinner party they hosted (we weren't there) and the following day I got texts and congrats from friends who had found out via the grapevine because of their announcement. I was so upset!
