We didn't! Well, we hired our first nanny through a strong recommendation who had great references. In retrospect, we probably should have done a background check anyway.

Yes, I have done background checks and called references.

Yes we will for the nanny we will hire for a few months before day care. But not for the day care providers. The school we are going to takes care of that when hiring.

we did background checks ... Re: one potential nanny we found via a website, we found that she had had a history of identity theft. needless to say, she wasn't hired!

I didnt...only because when I met her I could tell that she'd be the perfect person to care for baby, just got lots of good vibes, and I could feel that she was very loving and responsible. I heard from other people who knew her and they recommended her.

Not really but my husband's cousin works there so that's all the reference we need!

Both of ours came on recommendation from others who had used them in the past, so we didn't need to check because someone else already had.

No, I work there and the state has all records online of any wrong doings.

I don't have a nanny, but if I did I would if I didn't know them. I do a background check for people renting my house .... so I'd also want one for someone taking care of my kid.

We won't be having one but I'd definitely do it if we were going to, and I'll check any potential babysitters. Having worked with volunteers in the past who had to have background checks run... you would never believe who has what in their past based just from meeting them! Definitely worth the money.

Ummm... I wouldn't even know how to do that here in Mexico, and if I did, I probably wouldn't trust the results. Fortunately I got someone who had been working for a friend for 10 years, we know exactly where she lives and all that jazz, so we feel good about her.

We did a personal background check on our nanny, but just checked the state records for our daycare provider.
