I never did bc we didn't have money for it. My summers until the 5th grade when I was old enough to stay home alone was spent at work with my mom until my brothers wanted to go home.

yes! Every summer from ages 9-14, then I started doing international or domestic trips each summer with my church until I was 18. I LOVED IT. Back then it was less than $100 for a week! I'm not sure what it is anymore.
I will definitely send my kid(s) if they want to go!
ETA: I just checked - the camp I used to go to is still pretty cheap - $180 for a week!

Church camp. It was a lot of fun but I was sooooo shy at the time that I probably didn't get the full effect. I skipped all optional events to stay in my bunk and read!

Summer camp has been the #1 major influence on my life!! I went every summer for at least 4 weeks from the time I was 7. I would go to sleepaway camp for 3 weeks and family camp (think like Dirty Dancing but much less posh!!) for 1 week.
The friends I made at the family camp, which i worked at from ages 16-20, are still my closest friends, in fact four of us have moved to Australia, lived together for years, and plan to stay here forever! I am still close to friends from other areas of my life by my camp friends are my closest friends. One thing that stresses me out about having kids in Oz is that summer camp isn't really a thing here! I'm going to have to send them home to Canada to go to camp in their winter breaks

Yes! I did an all girls camp for 5 years, and then a dance camp for about another 3 years. And I worked at an all girls camp while I was in university, too. I loved it, and we plan to give the option to our kiddos when they are bigger!

Eh...kind of. I went to a week long day camp... It maaay have been horse camp. Hahahah, basically it consisted of getting there in the morning, taking care of/learning about/riding horses. At the end of the week we had to put on a "show" for our families. There's still pictures floating around of me with my neon pink/teal windbreaker riding tall on my ancient arthritis-ridden horse "Woody." The shame!
